I had to replace the one on my 85 about 5 or 6 years ago. No real tricks that I can remember. I think the hardest part was disconnecting it from the gauge cluster. I think mine broke because the hanger from my h-pipe was putting it on a bind. Something to look at when you're taking it out. I just cut a couple inches off the hanger when I put the h back on.

I don't think you need to remove the H, but in my case that's what caused it to break, yours my be different.

gotta remove the cluster, you wont have much room to get your hand behind it to disconnect cable... then just disconnect it from tranny, few clips holding it to the frame rail down dr. side cluster will be the hardest part

dont have to take off the h-pipe

yes cable goes down to the driver's side of the tranny, it's an 11mm(is on 5spd,may be different size on aod) bolt holding it in, just remove bolt, then pull out whole gear part outta tranny, there will be a little like a c-clip holding the gear on,just pull out, pull off gear, slip on new gear,re-install c-clip put back in tranny

never thought bout that....i was thinking putting the battery in trunk on driver side and leaving bottle there....since the fuel lines already run down that side of car. :dunno:
