To those who have had car parts powder coated before, what do you think about this estimate I got? I think its too high, but I've never had anything powder coated before.
1993 cobra upper and lower intake + stock valve covers for $300. I was thinking it would be about 1/2 that?

Yeah I was hoping about $150-$200.
Too add more detail, I was told my price "includes bead blasting, primer and top coat."

Thanks, I didn't know they were a site sponser. Don't see a section for them under the "Sponsors Direct" area of the forum. I live in Central PA so I was getting quotes around here. I do travel to Pittsburgh to visit family so I may have to just check them out.

What kind of powder coating were you quoted for?

Are you looking for a single color or a multi coat?
The intakes will need quite a lot of masking.
You don't need a primer on those parts in my opinion. $300.00 would be in the upper end of the ball park.
160.00 is low for all the parts with the masking and openings to keep powder out of, that would be low end just for the intakes.
225.00 to 250.00 would be the average for all the parts listed.

The last time I went to get powder coating done the prices were so friggin outrageous I actually went and bought the oven, gun, blast cabinet, media and powder for 2/3 of what they asked to for to do my parts. Now I do all my own and have no one to blame for the quality.

(http://www.steelcitystangs.com/index.php?page=sponsors...they)They are also part of the banner rotation! We have 2 levels of advertising, level one just gets a banner and on the list, level 2 gets the same plus their own section under Sponsors Direct.
Do the sponsors offer a discount to members?

You would have to ask them.

I'm not sure. Didn't know there were different kinds? I just asked to get the above items powder coated in a dark grey/gunmetal color. I was told $300 which includes bead blasting, primer and top coat.

Sounds like multi coat to me but I'm not familiar with the process. I was told that price was for the primer + color + top coat

Not a bad idea. I just don't know where I would put an extra oven LOL

Got a quote from another place:
"Price estimate for the 2 intake pieces would be $190 in gray. The valve covers would be around $80 for the pair in gray. Gunmetal colors are metallics and require a clearcoat to prevent oxidizing and increases cost by 50%(add $95 to intake price and $40 to valve cover price)Prices would not include masking off any designs or logos"
Really? add 50% for clearcoat + more $ to mask stuff off? Thats over $400!! I'll just buy a brand new systemax intake at that price...wow. I may just not do this hahaha

Or a compressor large enough for the blasting.
If the color chosen needs a clear coat, then 300.00 isn't to far off. Any powder that has a metal base or flake should be clear coated or it will discolor over time and when subjected to chemicals/weather. You still wouldn't need a primer in my opinion.
