View Full Version : Cold weather sucks
I think my truck has officially said F it. Was -15 this morning and had no 1st gear. Was instant check engine light when I tried to move. All most like it was trying to start out in 2nd gear. Was running a good 12minutes before heading to work. Got to a Sheetz and seemed better once restarted. Got to work and checked fluid level and it was good. Guess computer was too cold. Seemed ok on way home.

One of the cold days last week freaked my dads 2005 ram 1500 out. Started it and the electronic throttle lightning bolt appeared. No throttle at all. Truck would idle fine just couldnt drive it. He had to restart it several times and eventually the light went out and the truck drove fine
I hate winter. I don't ski or snow board so winter is useless to me. Add on top of that the heat went in my truck, I'm done with winter.

The damn garage door opener crapped out today - thinking it is the drive gear - but it is too damn cold to go down there to work on it. Plus, the '66 is on one side and I don't want to put it outside to work on the door.
At least we might see 40 on Saturday!

Sorry but I love it! When summer roles in and humidity is through the roof, then I will be complaining! You can always get warm, can't always cool off...
On another note, the cold weather, especially the months of December & January are always my two slowest months, so that sucks for me!

I don't complain when it is hot. I just drive faster with the windows down.

it must be Dodges. Every time it's below zero my power steering is crap until it moves a little then it's fine. It's okay if warmer, or once it moves.
came out of work today and my temperature display reads "--". At least now it won't know it's below zero so that problem is fixed :) no idea what's up with that thing (actually all functions but the compass are dead).
as a bright spot, I've started ordering parts for my junk, to get excited about something, picture 35 splines, spool, and 5/8 studs. Shit is getting serious ;)

Still piecing together the schedule, but not looking goi for any of the big races. Hoping there are some windows for a few local races (loving QCR 11.50 index). Should be done for Bowling Green and on from there. Not looking good for much else. :(

Ed, I wonder if it's a Dodge thing... my buddy started his up, the idiot lights came on, showing 0 oil pressure. He turned it off right away. Checked oil, level was fine. Restarted and it was good. On a side note, the hot rod Cavalier wagon has lit every time, gone through everything, right up the unplowed lane, etc. :D

I hate winter with a passion. That is all.
Not sure if a Dodge thing. Seemed ok this morning. Now the steering. Ya it sucks when it's cold until you get it turned once. Than all is good.
I need to buy more parts for car. I haven't thought of it since September.

Good to hear mine isnt the only one .. It's non existant until it turns, then fine ... really odd.
On the good side, my temeprature display worked this morning. Of course it knew how cold it was and the power steering did it's thing, lol

During the first polar vortex when it was -11 one morning, i cranked my car over and i guess it was enough for it to drop the timing chain. This has been an expensive winter for me. F this shit!

No no no, that's been in the garage since November! This was my beater Cavalier with 116k. It dropped a spark plug a while back and has been burning oil pretty steadily so it was on it's last legs anyways. Currently undergoing a heart transplant!
Few weeks back on a trip to Cleveland in a snow storm. I put it in 4wd and it ate the cv on the front driveshaft. I need to find someone to build me a real driveshaft. This one was 9 months old and I told the guy at Pittsburgh Driveline that it would eat it as the angle is to severe for that crappy cv.
Now it's clickity clickity clickity, don't be a lead foot(which is boring in the snow) when I need 4wd.

Lots of crazy pops and cracks coming from the deck area and ceiling in the middle of the night when we're trying to sleep. This is a bad one for sure. They were talking about some possible flooding once everything thaws.

Dan -glad to hear it wasn't the Cobra! I remember you mentioning needing some paintwork done and thought you said it was the Cobra. If you get tired of the Cavy breaking down on you, I have a buddy selling a nice 2008 Focus 5-speed for around $7k. 36 mpg. 69k miles.

Talk to Greensburg Machine. They do a lot of driveshafts for PRP racers, and they are big into 4wd, pulling, off road, etc.

Yeah I had Ryan (Black89GT) re-do the bumpers last year because of chips and I scraped my garage backing out. Then about 3 months after they got re-done I was cut off merging onto the parkway and lightly rear-ended someone, so I need to get the mounting tab repaired and have the bumper repainted again, there was no other damage is it was at maybe 5mph. Luckily the Cavalier has been very reliable up to this point, I've done not much more than brakes and tires on it the past 4-5 years. I'm hoping to get 1-2 more years out of it and be car payment free then I'll look for something new.

yeah, was going out on a job and had to drive a big crane truck out to ohio. our mechanics had to jump them and then we let them sit for about 30-45 minutes.....they said the fuel was treated, but about 10 miles from out shop the fuel that had ungelled was all used up and my truck died at 40 mph on route 18. had to sit there and direct traffic for about an hour waiting for our mechanics. they got it fixed after 3 attempts of driving and stalling, and then i was on my way....and filling up 50 gallons of diesel at sheetz was the biggest mistake of my life. 1 GPM, it sucked
