Due to a lack of paid advertising for 2015, forum donations and support from our members in general, the SCS forum will be closing down this month and will remain closed unless a sale of the forum is completed. Since purchasing the forum from Lou, I have spent a lot of time and money upgrading the forum software, look & layout. I also had t-shirts & stickers printed and spent the better part of the last 2 years trying to find motivated members to organize, promote and execute forum activities. It was my sincere hope that those efforts would be enough to reenergize our declining forum and keep it around for many years to come, unfortunately that was not the case and I can no longer justify investing anymore time & money than I already have.

To all my friends and customers on here, thank you so much for your business and support over the years, Wolfpack Speed would be nothing without all of you!

Best of luck to all of you!

Mike

Well this sucks balls.

I wish I had the $ to buy or invest in the sight but since I gave up my business over a year ago I have been living paycheck to paycheck with this new job.

I will miss this sight terribly when it's gone. I have made lots of friends and acquaintances from this sight over the years. I wish everyone the best.

So nobody wants to buy it but we all like it... How much do you need to run it another year?

$500? $1,000?

im sure we could find 25 people willing to chip in $20. What's it take to make it work?

someone needs to bring back pitt speed. Or just a pittsburgh general car forum. While many of the members on here don't own mustangs anymore, a mustang specific forum is too specific for the area imo.

That and forums are a dying breed, most people have moved over to fb discussion groups....they are free and easier to get members

I hope someone does come forward and buy it. In case that doesn't happen, thanks to Mike and Lou for all of their efforts. I have also met folks from here, had fun on here, etc. I'll miss teasing Ed/Ares and Bob about the results when "more rpm" is applied. :D

Agree with slowsix... FB has drastically reduced forum discussions and activity. I like both, use both, but have a good number of friends like Ed and Sean/Roush08 who don't want to get on FB.

They DID bring back PittSpeed and it failed miserably. The people who grew up with forums no longer use them and the people who might go on them now use Facebook and alternatives... Hell I mainly pay attention to events on Facebook and not much else.

I didn't know that they brought it back.
I personally like forums better than FB, they're a lot easier to navigate in regards to topics and such, but FB is definitely a lot more popular now.

If it does die off, that would be a bummer because I did make some friends on this site. However, I would like to keep in touch with a lot of you on here so we can continue to set up meets, cruises and arrangements to go to places like Carlisle. Maybe we can provide our real names so we can link up on FB or provide our phone numbers so we can text each other? I will start

Thanks for everything you have done Mike ( and Lou before you ). I really enjoy this site and would miss it - and the many friends I have made thru it - a LOT. I would definitely chip in $20 or $25 ( per year? ) or whatever if enough folks would do the same. How about if the $25 allows you to post items in the FOR SALE area? Those who don't pay don't have access to post in that area. Just a thought. I have bought and sold a lot of things here - the fact that it is a relatively local forum is a HUGE plus in my opinion - for buyers and sellers alike.

Maybe the $25 could get the member $25 off ( one time per member per each year of paid membership ) any in-shop labor charge of $100? It might bring in some additional business ( not that you are in need of that - but it could pay off in the long run ).

What do you think Mike? Is this do-able? Just trying to help.

I am one of those who will never get involved with FaceBook or things like that. I guess that means I'm old...

Look everyone, I appreciate what you are trying to do, I expected this to be honest, but like I said in my first post, the forum is closing down unless a sale is completed. While it's mostly about the money, it's not all about the money and it's time to pull the plug on my end. The forum costs $135.00 per month ($1620.00 per year) just to host and is due for another minor software upgrade. If our members can pull together enough money to cover the annual hosting fee, as well as a plan going forward, I'm all ears.

Edit: Just threw it together real quick: http://www.reddit.com/r/SteelCityStangs/
You'll have to create a user name, and subscribe. Should be open for anyone to join.

The only real difference is that all "threads" are on that one page and move up and down based on voting and time. You'll see for sale threads, car pictures, general bs, and whatever else mixed together.

Threw a few links in there so guys can see how it works.

I agree with everyone, it will be sad to see the forum go, lots of good people and times on here! If you look around the Mustang forum world, some of the biggest and most active forums are nothing now, like it or not, Social Media > Forums. Forums will always have their place because of searchable and linkable threads with good content, but outside of that, social media offers everything else forums do and then some. IMO this forum has been in decline for too long, I knew the risk when I purchased it but I was willing to try, it is what it is. I have been kicking around an idea for quite some time that would utilize the paid for license and domain, it would serve a purpose and also be a way for people to stay in touch, but much more affordable and simple, I will give it some thought and let everyone know anything changes.

As far as merchandise goes, I gave away the rest of the t-shirts but there are still stickers at the shop, first come first serve if anyone wants one. Also, I am told the forum will be closed by 12/31 by the host company.

Thanks

$1620.00 per year. Seriously?
I admin a vbulletin site with over 1400 members and over 600 users login per day and we do not pay anywhere near that with servint.
This site does not have the traffic to justify the Ultimate VPS cost. This site will run fine on the $55 plan as long as the server is optimized for vbulletin.
Downgrade the server and I will gladly help get it optimized.

I don't claim to know much about this stuff Jeff but if you remember, the forum had to be moved to a new server when I purchased it. You recommended staying with servint and the same package that the forum was on at the time. I did exactly that and have no regrets, the package worked for a while and servint has been nothing short of fantastic to deal with, very knowledgable and reliable. Fast forward several month when the forum was completely redesigned and upgraded to the most stable release of vBulletin, a plan change was mandatory. With a boost in activity/usage, the forum started to mechanically slow down and became very choppy, users started to complain. Both Servint and the professional vBulletin company I used for the upgrades stated that I needed a more powerful hosting option and I went with their suggestion. The forum is still hosted with servint and since I upgraded the package, there have been zero issues. I am in no way saying that there may or may not be a more economical way to host the forum or configure it to be more efficient, but I don't have that knowledge regardless.

Your the perfect person to purchase/run the forum Jeff, whey don't you take their money to put toward the purchase and buy the damn thing!

Your the perfect person to purchase/run the forum Jeff, whey don't you take their money to put toward the purchase and buy the damn thing!

Mike I run the same vb4 4.2.2 on the site that has 600+ members per day login and at any given time 100 to 200 members on at the same time. We are on the plan one level below you with zero issues. The server needs to be optimized for vbulletin. There are many things that can slow the site down that are server setting related. I don't have any interest in owning a site anymore but could help out.

And for those of you who don't know I put this site back together in 2006 when the server plug got pulled on Lou with no backup.
Then a few years later Lou was given a few days notice that he was losing space on the old modular fords server. I moved the site to my old server keeping the lights on until Mike took over two years ago.

I really hope we all can come together and keep this forum alive!! It along with FB and youtube are really some of the only sites I go on. I'm down to donate some loot too! I have met n made some great friends on here and purchased ALOT of my Stangs parts from here!
My full name is Brent Bubash on Facebook so whoever wants to, can friend me. I am a Admin/Co-Founder of Allsquad a Secret group that my one great friend helped start up for the heck of it. He didn't care if it was me, my dad, uncle and him when we first started it. Now we've grown and also have a Open ALLSQUAD Classifieds group to keep For Sale and Trade stuff off the Main wall. We also just recently had a member start up a Allsquad Erie Chapter too. Again hopefully we all can keep in touch and keep the local and International underground forum Car Scene alive and thrivin!!

So if this is true it sounds like we've got enough people to keep this thing afloat for at least another year. At $55/month we'd only need $660/year. At last count in this thread we had 23 people willing to donate at least $25. You can add me and a couple more to the list and we'd have the $660 we need. What can we do to make this happen in the next few weeks?

I'm similar to what a lot of people in this thread stated, I get on the site almost every day, and usually multiple times per day during the week but I don't post all that much. I'd really hate to see it go and I'd be willing to help however I can to keep it around

PaxtonShelby

If we're able to keep things afloat in the short term by a few of us kicking in a little $, how about giving this a shot... We have 1400+ "members". If 25% of them are remotely active that's about 350 members. At $5 a year that's more than enough to keep things going. Even if only 10% of the 1400 stick around that's enough to cover the downgraded hosting fee. New folks could get a 30 day trial for free and then join for the $5 per year. Just brainstorming here. I know it is easy for me to sit back and throw out ideas...I don't know how it all works behind the scenes. Just trying to help. Seems like several of us are willing to contribute to keep things afloat in the short term...so it stands to reason that many more would be willing to pay a very small membership fee.

Let's keep the dialogue going here guys - it can't hurt!

I purchased this forum because I have a lot of friends and customers on here and figured it was the least I could do to show my appreciation for all the business and support I have received over the years. I looked at it like this, if it keeps the forum around for a few more years or longer, great! If not, well, at least I tried and hopefully some will recognize and appreciate that.

$2500.00 for the forum
$259.00 for the vBulletin license
$500.00 for outside services
$1000.00 for t-shirts & stickers

...and then some. Since then, 2 members have clicked the "Donate" tab to help out, KeystoneJohnny & 1320goat, and if I collected $150.00 in merchandise sales I'm lucky. The icing on the cake for me was the lack of interest I received over the last year when I reached out to so many of you looking for members to help run the forum and organize, promote and execute the missing events & activites we have desperately needed.

So my question to all of you is this, where was all this support and interest for SCS over the last 2 years???

I have invested all the time and money into SCS that I am willing to, I'm done. I do not have the time or interest to contribute to forums, let alone own, maintain or grow one at this point. The real problem isn't the lack of advertising, server fee etc., it's a lack of interest and support from our members. I think it's great that a small number of you appreciate the forum and want to see it stick around, my suggestion to those who do is to find a way to purchase the forum from me ASAP.

Where was my support an interest in the past? Well, as you said above, you purchased it to show appreciation to lots of your friends and customers. I'm not a frequent flyer here, but I check in a few times a week. I've never seen you mention before that the site was such a burden or a financial drag. How much many you made was none of my business. Last week you spoke up that it wasn't working for you. When you did, I responded and so did many others. Lots of folks clearly do appreciate you and the website, but I"m not sure that a week ago anybody was thinking of buying a forum. Now that you've explained how miserable it is, I'm not sure anybody will (but kudos to you for offering a fair description of the work and expense involved.) Nevertheless, there's a swell of support here that's offering a path forward. I hope you're remembered as the guy that was the caretaker for SCS before it evolved into something else and not the guy that let it die.

There is, but when it is too regulated you end up with a forum that's just for posting pictures & circle jerking.. A lot of the original user base moved on to non mustang/ford products. It was petitioned for years to evolve into a more general local enthusiast board but never happened. With the failure of UGH and other local boards, it was inevitable that a forum devoted to such a small subset of the local scene would die.

The thing that brought me here originally was to talk shit on a member at the time who was street racing at a local spot drunk with an empty 30 pack in his back seat, ended up I had a bunch of friends already here and stuck around.

There is always a certain level of drama around the car scene no matter the age, the demographics or the vehicles. There needs to be some friction to keep things moving and keep people interested. When was the last SCS "event"? We used to put on a race every year over on Pittspeed and call out SCS.... and 1 or 2 people would show up from here. It's beyond help at this point, forums are a dying medium and if someone buys the name/brand it would be for nostalgic purposes and not because there is any worth behind it.

There doesn't need to be drama on a website to keep it active. And despite what some of you may think, this is still a active website. At 3:30pm this afternoon there was 67 members who had visited the website. By 11pm tonight I bet that number goes up to 90+. It's getting new members involved and posting that is the key. Yes, your right there hasn't been SCS get together here. Why? It just takes a few members to get things moving. On my website I wish I had 67 members coming to it a day, but guess what...with my website we have meets, Stang Runs, Flashlight Drag events, and a car show that raised $1,700 for cancer. This Sunday there will be a Christmas party with over 45 people showing up. Forums are not dead, it takes great members like the ones posting here to make a website.:goodidea:

I've always liked forums that are run serious for people that truely just want tech info, or whatever, but have one section that is basically barely moderated for shit talking, kill stories, funny pics, etc. I think a healthy mix keeps the forum worth visiting and keeps post count up. If you see there is no real activity it's easy to move on. It's a shame to see this one go, but I can certainly see that Mike is done investing time and money in it, and I can respect that too.

I think drama keeps the site entertaining. I enjoyed UGH because every winter every got their keyboards out and talked shit for 4 months lol. But there definitely is a fine line. UGH often got out of hand.

Modded mustangs is personally my favorite site.... the tech sections are left to the tech, and the off topic section allows almost anything.

IMO, 60 some members on the site, doesn't mean an active site to me. Especially if only 3 post anything. It is too hard to keep a site down to one type of car, and local. You are niche'ing the site too much. If it is a car brand/type, it should be national, if it is a local site, it needs to be open to anything. Yes, you would have to get a long with stance guys and import kids, but atleast the forum would be more active.

If Dec 31 comes and goes and the site is not sold, would you ever receive any money?

Meaning, if it doesn't sell, maybe you would be willing to turn it over to the members?

?????

Yes, I would still sell it. I plan on making a full backup so it could be reinstalled on a server and made live again.

Are you kidding me? Did you not read a single post I made in this thread? I spent the better part of last year reaching out to several members in search of those who would be willing to organize, promote and execute the missing events & activities this site desperately needs. Not a single one was willing to take the bull by the horns and make it happen. How is this my fault? Let me guess, I'm supposed to close down Wolfpack Speed to make you happy? Hit the road you IGNORANT keyboard warrior!

Listen up tough guy. Don't get your panties in a bunch. Yes I remember you asking for help and if you remember I offered help and that's where it ended. Several people offered help and you never followed through. By what you just said you wanted someone to take over promoting the site while you say back and watch. That won't happen when the owner acts the way you have since owning it. You have asked for opinions and when they opposed your thoughts they were wrong. Just like deleting all the posts you didn't like. And don't say you didn't delete any posts. Because you did. Especially the ones that mentioned Tim. Your ego couldn't handle it plain and simple.

Close down your shop if you want it doesn't matter to me. Never used you and never will. As as far as ignorant goes.....you need to look in the mirror big guy

Listen up sir. Don't get worked up. Yes I remember you asking for help and if you remember I offered help and but I never actually got off my ass and tried to, I'm all talk. Several people offered help but they never followed through with you. By what you just said you needed to have someone to help with the site cause your very busy running a business and cant do everything, you did enough taking over the site and I love you for it. That won't happen when the owner is smart enough not to waste anymore of his time and money. You have asked for opinions and when they opposed your thoughts, just like with the classifieds, you were nice enough to go with the majority and not what you wanted so that the members were happy! Just like not deleting posts for the heck of it, only when they were about to cause drama, thanks for keeping things cool so there is no more bad blood, it was the right thing to do. And don't say you didn't do a great job Because you did. Especially the ones that mentioned Tim, we all know the drama follows that guy. thankfully Your ego could handle it plain and simple.

Close down your shop if you want but I hope you don't it matters to me. Never used you but someday I will wise up and will. As as far as ignorant goes, like maxpowers implied, I probably am both stupid and ignorant.....

On a serious note. Would a few of you be interested in purchasing the forum together, say each throw in a few hundred to meet agreed price? Then all who are part owners can moderate? Especially keeping an eye on sk360...

Lou and I were just talking about this at lunch, IMO this is the way to go at this point. We have some really good members on here and several have spoken up and offered to contribute if it helps keep the forum around. If everyone pitches in what they say they will and a small group of level headed members are willing to make up the difference to purchase the forum, it's pretty much a win win. I think the benefits of multiple owners will help the forum way more than it will hurt it. I have done the dirty work, the money was spent, the forum was made over, t-shirts & stickers can be printed whenever, I even paid to advertise the forum, we just need some members willing to put in the work to make events happen.

The only way multiple owners will work is with a LLC. Whom ever owns the domain is the one who gets sued. If it's not a LLC or corporation your personal assets are at risk. Forum owners haven't been sued. My old site was under a LLC.

This is correct. He was too busy to make the changes when the hosting server was no longer available. The traffic was high, I monitored it from the office almost everyday.

I've made quite a few contacts from this site. It'll be depressing to see it go but such is the life of local forums unfortunately. I don't post on here like I used to but Mike, thanks for the effort. I think we all appreciate that.

BTW, like it or not, a section of a site where there is basically no moderation is key in site sustainability. Look at most large forums, most traffic is in the off topic, ball busting sections and classifieds. The other sections like builds, technical, meets, etc all get their views stemming from the trash talk. Hell, half of the builds people do are to one up the next guy whether they admit it or not. Trash talk = traffic.

Wolfpack Speed

The server was moved because the host server was finished with their shutdown process and ready to pull the plug for good. I have 2 serious buyers that will purchase the forum if we can close the deal, I wanted to avoid the forum being shut off while we negotiate. So, I had a short term offer from another company that I host with that allowed me to upgrade my hosting account which enabled me to move the forum, the promotion is temporary but it didn't cost me anything so it was kind of a no brainer IMO.
