View Full Version : Changes/Mods to your car or truck over the winter

I have a few small changes planned for over the winter for my Z06 to try to add maybe a few more HP and some other small goodies!

1.) Im adding an off-road X-pipe instead of the catted version I have on there now. (Should be a good bit louder, maybe save a lb. or 2 and maybe add a few ponies!)

2.) MGW shifter as we all know I tend to miss the 1-2 shift from time to time at the track.....lol

3.) GM Centennial suede steering wheel with red stitching to match the rest of my interior.

Not a whole lot but then again I dumped a ton of moola into it last winter.

Cant wait to get her out this spring and get everything ironed out and get some new bests!

What y'all got planned for over the winter???

Figure out a wiring gremlin in the Ranger. Maybe a new intake and carb. Thought about gears also but would like to see 11's w/ the 3.55's.

might go to a coilover setup on the front of my car. Maybe a new headlight retaining panel. fix the oil leak.
That is probably about it. Dumped a bunch of money in it last winter doing the turbo set up

I've been thinking about changing the motor in my Model A Roadster. It currently has a mild SBC that runs pretty good in such a small/light car, but I want something that every time I get behind the wheel, I feel like I could die. I'm thinking of either the 377 stroker from my old drag car project with a tunnel ram and 2x4s or an old style roots blower motor. If/when this happens, I also plan on addressing some other minor things... wiring, seat location, new gauges, etc.

I also have a few little things to do on my 55 Chevy. If money/time allows, I'd love to do a 5 speed and 9 inch swap.

Actually yes John. Going to consolidate down to a single year round car for now. Probably an 10-12 SHO. I doubt it will stay stock though

Yeah it gets old. It's not fast enough to break so much stuff

Freakin GM's. :)

I am hoping to do some work on my crew cab:

1.) remove 3" of lift out of the springs
2.) address any and all steering/suspension issues
3.) install my ported big valve iron heads
4.) install some interior items...front seat belts, rear door pull handles...etc.
5.) Fix the gas gauge
6.) fix the stereo system

Small upgrade list for me ....

1- new clutch, I'm on the edge of the current set up and will blow through it next year.
2- new cam, it's smaller lift, much more duration, and more split than current. It's a new design cam I'm going to test.
3 - new turbo, still not final yet, but bigger :)
4 - going to install Kirkeys
5- going to try a set of 10" rear wheels

last I need to replace my current truck. That a whole different discussion, can't make up my mind, lol

No. Car will stay as is. I'm very happy with it the way it is. Any more comp. and it would be a little much for pump. I may swap out the plugs in the spring and try an N20 pass with it though. Previous owner ran a 250 hit but it will never see that again...

It has a 408 stroker lq9 block. Ported 317 heads. Rpm. Level 5 4l65e. 11.0:1 comp. Ratio. I dont know exact numbers on motor id assume 500/500 ish. On a 250 hit it put down 763/730 at the tires on 110.

Very nice! Im running 11.5:1 comp. ratio and running 93 octane but im probably about at the limit of the octane. Was gonna do a flex fuel kit as I already have huge injectors (ID1000's) but the other $1K id need to spend to get eveything else going to work with E85 wont be worth the 15-25HP id pickup.

what crank did you go with?

Did you piece together your stroker kit and have it machined or buy a complete kit from a vendor?

Where those heads done by fox lake when you were selling them, or did you send them out after they didnt' sell?

I was considering them but I already have another set here that I did a few yrs back...

I have a 472" deal in parts in my garage...need to get crackin on it once my other house/remodeling projects slow down.

I'm thinking drag radials will be my only mod for next year. The Toyo R888's I have on there now look awesome and hook ok on the street, but they wouldn't hook for shit at the track. I'd like to at least be able to hook in 2nd gear on the street with drag radials but that might be a pipe dream :3gears:

I'll add my current project for the Focus. Most likely the last hoo-rah for my "between Mustangs" car. :D

- 10.4:1 forged pistons
- Forged rods
- ARP main and head studs
- Clevite race bearings
- mild cams
- GT2871r turbo
- direct port meth injection
- Torsen LSD
- coilovers
- poly bushings
- Lakewood traction bars
- ARP extended front lugs
- Excedy hyper single clutch
- Slicks

Probably other stuff I'm forgetting. Final goal is 11.9 or better in the 1/4 with the current turbo. I expect it to take a few trips and a lot of practice launching a FWD.

The motor is built and in the car. Torsen LSD is also in. Just buttoning up small stuff before the first start.:pepper:

1.) Im adding an off-road X-pipe instead of the catted version I have on there now. (Should be a good bit louder, maybe save a lb. or 2 and maybe add a few ponies!)

2.) MGW shifter as we all know I tend to miss the 1-2 shift from time to time at the track.....lol

For me:

-clutch time for the cobra at 67k, new clutch, cable, steeda adjuster and quadrant
-while its out the long tubes that are collecting dust in the garage are going on.
-just got the front bumper redone while having the front license plate holes removed - stupid maryland car -
-get a tune, its time with no cats, 3.73's, long tubes, egr delete, etc, dash looks like a christmas tree
-new tires for the 03 cobra's I have, going with unshaved toyo ra1's so i can run at the track and the street with no changes
-inner tie rods/alignment again

-Do all this then comtemplate selling the car like I always do

Already had the turbo Focus together and back apart again due to a main seal leak and needing to adjust valve tappet clearances. Both fixed and getting it back together now. 400 wrong-wheel horsepower soon.

Also picked up some front and rear leather Recaro seats and braided brake lines.

I hear that. I think I got most of the kinks out of my car now, atleast I hope. Had to tow the damn thing home twice last summer

That's the trouble with more than doubling the power of a V6. I felt like every time I took it out something new would break. It got old real fast and I lost interest.

Nothing exciting planned for the WRX, just replace the valve cover gaskets. One of these days I'll start putting the 95 GT back together. Probably not until after we build a deck this summer though.

Not that I have noticed but I have barely driven it. Put them on the weekend before we got the snow. Similar combo as you LTs and off road x but I haven't had the resonators cut out yet.

When choosing primary diameter for headers I was told by a very reputable shop that the Kooks mid-length 1 7/8" would create a loss of 20 rwhp over the 1 3/4" on a stock long block sans cold air and tune. When asked if dyno comparisons were available they immediately said just believe them it's fact.

Every time I see a turbo it brings a smile to my face :)

Alas, all i've done are wheels. Got these when I was in PA in the fall:

http://www.americanmuscle.com/black-amr-19x10-0513.html

they were on sale/clearance. I also got 19x9.5's for the front, but they don't seem to be available anymore so its a good thing I got them when I did.

rubber all the way around are Michelin Pilot Super Sports in 275/40-19. Exact overal diameter to my stockers but 30mm wider for extra traction. Got them mounted and balanced today. If I can get over to my storage place I'll be mounting them on the car. With pics to follow.

I've driven them on an 2008 M3 and I love them, but I'm also a bit biased toward Michelin and BFG :)

Seeing this thread and it only being -8c outside motivated me to hit the storage place and throw on the new wheels. Here's a few shots. I love how the 19x10 rear, 19x9.5 front really fills out the wheel wells. The 275's look downright meaty on the front!

That and another stock type front drive shaft. See if this one makes it thru the winter before it decides to snap half the cage off inside the joint at transfer case.
