Sooo, I've been getting into doing some hauling with my Truck. Put some lights in the grill just before Christmas. Operate as a daytime running light with key on position and flip the 3 way switch and they become strobes for the oversize loads.

An example of one of the oversize loads.
The gooseneck I use mostly. Also use a 3 axle trailer.

I started putting together a fuel system for it. Aero A1000 pump with Caterpillar separator before and CAT 5 micron filter after. Beans diesel sump kit for the tank.
Did this for a few reasons. Stock filters are in the $60 neighborhood. The separator only holds about a teaspoon of water and easily plugs up which restricts pressure. The CAT holds a little less than a quart of water and I get them for $15. Best part is I have a case of each filter at work that's not going to be used so I was told I could have em. The grand spent there will basically pay itself off in about a year or so!

Truck pulling like that is a waste unless you have a deep pocket. Its fun to watch but I could never get into it.

Heaviest I hauled was a total weight of 29,300. I knew it was overweight but didn't know it was that bad. Generally I'm around 21000 or a little under when hauling.

Here's a big one. After doing the calculations, it was just a little over 27k.

Unfortunately, even with the bigger engine, it won't. Everybody knocks the 6.0's but damn, they are some pulling machines when properly done. Get past the emissions bullshit and they are very dependable trucks.

I wouldn't ever trade mine for any Dodge. Especially after seeing what my uncle has gone through with his. Its built to haul also but the body and frame is total shit. Shipping crate for a Cummins.

Oh yea I know. I could of finished my x275 car for what I spent so far. Friend just picked up a built 6.0 made like 78x/13xx I think, can't remember exact numbers but it was pretty high. I like it

That's exactly right. Other thing is proper tuning. Never ever ever use an edge or bullydog tuner on these trucks. Its an instant recipe for disaster!! A $300 bull dog tuner or edge juice will give you a repair bill higher than the truck is worth. I had a bulldog on mine when I first got it 4 or 5 years ago. The result was a $12,000 repair bill at Woltz and wind!!

Nice truck you have there. I have a Spartan tuned 6.4 dump truck. It runs pretty good. I also have a 6.7 pickup, I'm waiting for the warranty to run out to delete/tune it.

Do you run a grille cover in cold weather like this? I just grabbed one for the 6.7. That thing will not warm up

No, I don't cover the grille. I have a Mishimoto radiator in it and never had any cooling issues. You may need a thermostat.

This is the rad.

I wouldn't put being new out of the question. In this day and age you really never know what slips past quality control...or lack of really.

You know, to be honest, I actually considered that. I have an older Lincoln 135 that I've had for probably 10+ years. Used t shit out of it. I just got this because I wanted to get a newer one.

That 180 runs on 110/220, right?

I'm at the point now of either doing what you said and upgrading it or buying the 4x magnifier for the Eotech on my Daniel defense. I'm having a hard time deciding still. Should just get both. What the hell. 700 for the magnifier and probably 2-300 for the upgrade on the mig I think.

Dan B.

Yes, it runs on both. Cord swap takes all of five seconds.

After I replied I went on and looked. That's a real nice set up and only about 300 more...that's with the rebate. Think I'm gonna go see about upgrading mine. The box isn't even open yet so I should be able to. Thanks for the heads up on that!

Dan B.

Not to continue OT but I got mine with a good rebate also. It will also run a spool gun. I'm not sure of the 140 will do that or not.

Topic or not, doesn't bother me. Most conversations never stay on topic long anyways!

I saw that. The 180 dual does the spool gun but the other 180 won't. I will absolutely get the spool gun too.
I think the rebate was $100 cash or $250 in welding supplies?

Dan B.
01-08-2015, 08:26 AM
Oh, wait. I got the supplies. I needed a new helmet at that time and with the gloves, helmet and coat I was going to spend way more than the $100 rebate I would have saved.

wick
01-08-2015, 08:28 AM
Yeah, that stuff adds up real fast. The supplies seem to he a better route to take. I could use a new hood for sure.

I'm stuck at work till at least 7 tonight so I won't be able to get to the weld shop till tomorrow. I'll see then what I can do.

I'll utilize my indoor range today while I'm doing nothing.
