View Full Version : Small Capri upgrades

I think most here know my junk, but planning a few small upgrades this winter.
big deal for me is the car finally went "10's" with a 10.99. I need to get it to where it can run that anytime for True Street.

First is a small turbo upgrade from my current journal 5558 to a ball bearing 5858 ...

plus a "small" cam upgrade (it's a lot more duration) ;)

Also looking to loose a little weight so I got a set of Kirkey's and a few other little things. Going to remove everything related to the spray since I never really used it and it's just dead weight too.

Will you install everything at the same time or do it in steps to see the incremental gains? (please say the latter, please say the latter) :)
Martin0660

I wish I could do the later, but with my limited time, and the need to dyno the speed density set up each time, it's just not going to happen. Worse yet is I have a new intake coming with some real tricks I would like to see on its own too (as would the guy doing it for me). Add in this is a completely new grind cam that they would love the data on too .... Generally it sucks, but time is just going to be against me, and it's all going together then on the dyno.

Is that the V8's version of a 3/4 race cam? lol :tennis:
I had a pair of those Kirkeys in my old Cobra and they weren't to bad on shorter drives on the street.
Good luck this year Bob!

Looking great Bob!
I really like seeing someone stick with the same car year after year and continually make adjustments instead of just buying a new car every year. I think the whole forum watches every season to see what's going to be different. Good luck this year and maybe I'll catch you at PRP.

Did you come to a conclusion for a clutch?
Martin0660
02-23-2015, 12:46 PM
For this season it is getting another standard diaphragm clutch. IM not ready to bite off the issues that will come with a low base weight setup. I really don't think it would hot lap like we need in True Street .... I know it's a killer decision, but going to try one more season this way.

With you, Bob, there is no such thing as "small upgrades". Haha.

Go big or go home Rob ....
That is what is sort of odd for me. I've finally hit the point that I really am happy with what the car runs, and it really doesn't buy me much to go much faster. All of this is just so that I can run what I've been running a little easier and not have to push everything as hard. If it goes much quicker I will have to slow it down anyway.

Most won't notive much, but this is the part that has me most excited out of all of this. this is a new concept in our intakes. Based on a stock casting, but sliced, diced, welded up, and ported beyond what any of us thought the stock castings could go. I can't wait to see if this does what we think it will as far as RPM window ....

Nice! I tried data logging once with an Acer netbook and it logged about 1/4 of the data that my regular laptop would because it was so slow. I gave up on the netbook idea and went with a windows tablet a couple years later when the tablets got fast enough.

The tuning software I run (also does logging) is Tuner Studio. It is optimized to run on just about anything, and captures all data points without issues. I have actually logged to a palm pilot before and now use an Android tablet. Those can be used for logging because the data stream is so optimized, but tuning requires the laptop

Basically didn't get far on the dyno, seems I'm out of fuel pump. There are some promising things, at lower boost it pulled into the rev limiter, I love the torque curve, and we did see 430 rwhp before 5800 rpm when it started loosing fuel ....

Bob that looks great! That turbo spools really well! You've done a heck of a job properly matching cam and turbo. I can't wait to see that thing with a bigger fuel pump.
So you think that 10.99 run was with "only" 430whp or less? If so that's awesome.
EDIT: I see it pulled to 410whp on a previous dyno chart.
