So I've been thinking about buying one of these cars and swapping out the automatic for a 6 speed... Whole rear suspension (IRS upgrade) big brake kit... And some better springs and shocks.

That would be fun. And pricey. And significantly slower. But still very cool as long as you save all the parts to put it back to factory stock.

Why? You mean the non-street legal cobra jet? I had a co-worker who wanted to buy one to make a street car but you can start with a '13 GT500 and build it how you want for half the money and its already street legal.

I wouldn't give 2 fuc$ what it ran at a drag strip... I'd road race that baby

Just seems odd to take a factory race car built for straight line racing and turn it into a road course car. It would be a big investment ( for me ) just to buy the car itself, and with a car like that I think it's value would take a hit with those mods. I'd think you'd be better off in the long run starting with a Boss 302. You could boost it and drive it on the street and still have a big pile of money in your pocket compared to if you went the Cobra Jet route.

Cobra Jets are crazy! For you purposes, perhaps a Boss 302 Ring edition as a starting point? I'd think it's more aligned with your goal and not to mention cheaper!

Cobra jet- take the shell of a street car and redo everything to make it straight line specific only and pay $50k over what the shell car could be bought for........so you want to pay stupid money for a car that was converted to go straight, only to turn around and spend more money to make it a street car again?

Personally I'd rather swap a Coyote motor into a low mileage all original 2003-04 Cobra...

This is a lesson on why you shouldn't pick cars to build while drinking!

LOL!! I think everyone here will agree that if drinking was involved...you need to continue drinking!

Just seeing if it's ok to transform a drag car into a road race car... Apparently folks here think the opposite is ok

I think it's a fine idea. I've actually thinking about getting a new Z28, swapping some v6 brakes on it for better drag wheel options and such, and making a bad-ass drag car

You'd need the homofagmatic transmission too

Well yes a powerglide would be tits. Could just sell the 6 speed and pedal set up. Would like to swap out the weak roadrace rear for the bulletproof zl1 rear

So is it harder to make a car that turns go in a straight line or for a car that likes to go straight to take a turn? Hmmm Either way you will have a nicely installed cage. lol

Now you just have to choose between supercharger or n/a.

I actually like the idea of a road race car with a cobra jet motor. Sounds like a winner to me!!!!!

Oh it's a great idea and would be a pantload of fun...but it would be like burning a shoebox full of Ben Franklins...

Agreed that buying the cobrajet car as a package would be the long and most costly way to that end resault. they are proud of that CJ and that CJ motor, quite the price tag on that alone. If it were cheaper I would have already shoved it in my boss. Had that conversation more than once in the bar. On the other hand that new 5.2 flat plane crank they stuck in the gt350 is coming out soon. I'm wondering what kind of pontential that can bring to the table. can't wait to see what happens when they start pushing the air down it's throat.

Boss 302S or 302R are non street legal versions of the Boss 302, main as turn key race cars for the road course. Similar to the cobra jet.
