Hello all. Just joined. Don't see much muscle car stuff in Pittsburgh, so was glad to see this. Just purchased a 2016 Mustang GT with Performance Pack. Still bone stock for now other than exhaust. So nothing all that special here... I do have a Whipple supercharger on order though, and is expected to be shipping on 1/19.

Thanks man. I went with Solo Performance. It has the "J pipe" set up and of coarse resonator delete. Absolutely love the sound. Also purchased on a group buy and got an amazing price.

No drone at all. The J-pipes ensure there is no drone. And it is nice because it is fairly quiet unless you wan't to hear it. At fairly low throttle it is nice and subtle. But once you get on it, it gets a very very nice loud deep tone. I have owned many a brand of exhausts, and this is without a doubt my favorite. Everyone likes what they like tho. I like that it keeps the deep rumble throughout the rpm's and it doesn't lose any steam at the higher rpm's. It also doesn't get a "tinny" sound to it, if you know what I mean. The workmanship of the product and Solo's customer service was outstanding as well.

The mbrp sounds good as well. I actually just ordered my DSS half shafts. I wana throw those on along with the Whipple so that I don't snap the stock shafts on my first decent launch and have to pay for a toe truck.

I'm am doing the clutch first because stock one just doesn't work so well.I made my first passes on it with street tires. I know Tim had some 1.4 60 foot times with stock half shafts with a auto.
Superman16
01-14-2016, 05:56 PM
I had heard good things about the stock clutch holding up pretty well. But it does seem to be mixed reviews. I guess I will see how it does, and go from there. Hopefully I can get at least one or 2 years out of it. I will only put about 2500 miles on it a year, and will only see the track a couple times.

Mine has 2700 miles on it and another guy I know with a supercharger on his didn't last to long either. I have around 30 passes on mine. Mine is for sale so if I don't sell by April then I'll do the mods.

It will take me 6-7 years to get 30 passes in. So I think I should be ok for a bit. Again, its definitely a mixed bag. I know folks with Whipples on their car with well over 10,000 miles on it, and the stock clutch is still holding strong. But have also seen folks that only got 3,000 miles out of the stock clutch. But the majority of them that got such short term out of it, were also tracking the car closer to your amount of passes.

Lunch it hard on sticky tires and it will toast itself. But launch easy and roll into it and you'll have better luck.

100% agree. And since most of my fun will be on back roads, I won't be launching it too much at all. Just some spirited driving.
Superman16
01-14-2016, 06:23 PM
Actually I take that back. I do not agree 100%. But I do agree it could happen. But many have been launched pretty good with the stock clutch and been fine. Others.. not so much. But no matter what, it obviously has a shorter life span that way.

01-14-2016, 06:26 PM
Is the '15+ tranny / clutch different than the '11-'14 ? I've heard from many that 600+ hp on an '11-'14 clutch is about the limit at the track.
Superman16
01-14-2016, 06:46 PM
I believe it is the same. And it is definitely not a big fan of 600+ HP lol I am just saying I have seen many ppl get a decent amount of miles out of them if they aren't tracking the car a lot, or launching it a lot. A close friend of mine has 8,500 miles on his stock clutch with 680rwhp, and about 15-20 passes on it. But I am sure he is wearing very very thin at this point, and has already gotten much more out of that clutch than most ppl.

I still don't think I'd mess around with a stock clutch at those power levels. I'd just bite the bullet and upgrade the clutch at the same time. Heck - you already spent a bunch on the SC...what's another G?

Its a grand that I really don't have so soon with coming up with all the money for SC and half shafts and install. Plus I have hands on experience with a car making more power than mine will, on a stock clutch. You are right tho, it is something I know I will need to upgrade. I just don't think it's necessary right now. Not for the driving that I will be doing with it. If it burns up it burns up.. at that point I eat crow and need to invest sooner than expected.

lol Yea. The Whipple and the options that I added to it have put me in a bit of a hole. So for 2016 I am just doing the SC and half shafts. Hopefully in 2017 I can upgrade the clutch, drive shaft, and get some worth while tires on there that will hook up. Hopefully there are some fairly local meet and greets this summer. Would love to meet some of you guys. Thats why I joined on here. In hopes of meeting some local gear heads and get to some events. I see your in Moon Township. Thats where my office is, so not far at all!

Ok I know where you're at. I live about a mile from there.
PVGP = Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix - every July - in Schenley Park.
Check out pittsburghvintagegrandprix.com and let me know if you have any questions. It is by far the best show with vintage racing that you will see on this half of the continent.

The PVGP races at Pitt Race are great too - lots more horsepower there than at Schenley.
Me and my old man really want to make it up to Pitt Race for the PVGP events. Every year we say we are going to go and something comes up. We have gone to the PVGP now for about 17 years missing one or two in there. Always the high light of my summer. Bring the Stang out!

Yes, it does clear the stock hood. And yes, it is pretty darn close. I did not do any fuel upgrades, other than when I bought the Whipple kit, I went with the larger 72# injectors. If/when I go smaller pulley, I will add a BAP.

Are you upgrading your clutch. I just got the McLeod RXT for mine because stock ones don't like that power.

I will at some point, but I am in no hurry. I pretty much never launch my car. I think it will hold fine for a while. Once it starts to go, I will probably go same route as you with the McLeod clutch.

I hear ya. It's definitely on the list. But I think I have plenty of time. Especially the way I drive lol Also, for my regular daily driving, I keep my boost set at noticeably reduced levels in gears 1 thru 3. Which is also the gears I spend 50% of my driving time in. Once my wallet recoups from the Whipple, I will certainly be looking to upgrade the clutch.

Within the Whipple tune, you can adjust boost levels by gear. You are able to reduce boost levels up to 25% reduction. You can do it in each gear individually, or across the board as all inclusive gears. It only takes about 30 seconds to adjust the levels as well.

That's an awesome feature for the strip I bet....
Superman16
03-29-2016, 06:26 PM
It really has a lot of cool features in it. I'd say you can do it on the "fly". But, you do at least have to be stopped and have the lap top connected. Then there are many features available. One feature I really like that you can enable is "octane detect". It will automatically adjust the tune if you add some race full or Torco. And on the flip side, it will also adjust, and pull timing if you run into some bad/low octane gas. You can also go full race mode and turn off all the nannies, and also manually adjust timing. All within a couple minutes.

As long as you buy the full kit and their "flare tool" with the kit, and you upgrade to their 72# injectors. Then it comes with it as part of their tune.

Does it explain how it reduces boost levels? Boost reduction on a pd blower has been talked about a lot in the past. This is the first I've heard of it.
