however the LS2 got 10 more ft lbs. of torque...

3,180 / 400 = 7.95
3,600 / 390 = 9.23

I think you mean "lbs per hp"

Nonetheless, even tho that car only has 13K miles, you can find C6's really cheap...you can probably find a modded, 50K mile C6, for probably 20K.... I sold mine for 21K... 70K miles, 470rwhp, lots of both performance and appearance mods....

As miles climb, the typical corvette owner has NO interest, so prices start to plummet.... but the LS2/3 engines are incredible engines, even into high miles, so I wouldn't let that bother you if you're wanting something cheap and fun

right now, i would be trading this Miata in so I'm only looking at dealers. that will last until I actually talk to a dealer and he tries to stick it straight up my toot-hole with my trade-in value, then I'll be on CL and everywhere else trying to sell private party. We all know how that goes. So, the summer will drag on with Wifey (who loves this Miata... maybe I should sell it to her with free "how to drive a stick" lessons. LOL) bitching and me waiting on a decent offer. i'll either relinquish and accept the butt-f*cking a dealer gives me, accept a piss-poor personal check offer from an out-of-state loser or cowtow to Wifey's complaining and we'll be driving to Seven Springs for their Fall Festival in October and putting this Mazda away for another winter. I can't believe it will be three years in June since I owned this car (CAM, I need help). That is unprecedented. It is a very fun car to drive, but I'd like to get back into something that has more torque than the max setting on a 3/8" drive wrench.

There is a HUGE Miata following. You should have no problem selling it to an enthusiast and do much better than trade-in value.

from Edmunds...

The 90-degree DOHC V8 engine in question displaces 6.2 liters or 379 cubic inches. It has an 11.3:1 compression ratio and variable valve timing. It delivers its 451-hp peak at 6,800 rpm out of a possible 7,200. Torque builds from the basement to a 443 pound-feet peak at 5,000 rpm.

C63 AMG passes through 60 mph in 4.4 seconds on its way to a 12.5-second quarter-mile at 113.7 mph

You better stay tuned, two of my rejects are gone within the last week. The CS from post #1 is not on Washington Ford site anymore and the Silver base GT/PP at Uniontown Ford is sold. There's still a base GT/PP in Guard at Uniontown for $35,xxx MSRP. Ford should be changing the Incentives today.

I read the same review earlier today. I think the SS was 46,xxx and the M4 was 87,xxx. We should all be so grateful to be riding this wave of American (er, relatively cheap) muscle while it lasts. still kind of amazing the greenie weenies haven't totally annihilated this market yet.

I was just talking to my wifey about driving this thing to work during the summer. As I stated earlier, I'm not shelling out over $40K to stare at the car. If she drove it half the year, her little Encore would last twice as long, too. win win win... well, other than the speeding tickets and parking lot bumps she'd put all over it and not ever know wtf happened... :(

So, to update the cars in this thread, both CS cars, both base GT/PP cars at U'town Ford are sold and this blue car from yesterday is gone already.

I think I've whittled my tire kicking down to '13-'14 Mustang GTs, manual tranny, at least 3.55 gears, coupe, anything but black...

Can anybody tell me if something actually changed in the engine from 11/12 to 13/14 or did Ford just change the hp rating from 412 to 420 ?

Does anybody on the site have a coyote-powered Mustang with 3.31s. This car will probably never see a track... straight or otherwise. I feel like I'm jumping on the bandwagon saying I NEED a 3.55 or 3.73 gear, but maybe I'm overlooking a good cruiser/highway ratio... I know I know... "go drive one and see what I think"... I'm so impulsive and limited on free time, I'll probably make a deal on the first Mustang I drive. :shoothead:

Mark might have 3.31's in his car (13 or 14 not sure). Can't remember. But with the CJ intake and tune it easily crushes my '14 GT TP with 3.73's. SOB is strong.

Mark Aubele
04-20-2016, 03:08 PM
Yes, I swapped 3.31s into my '14 Track Pack GT. Mainly I did it to get the gearing the same as the factory 3.73s with the shorter race tires (track tire is 315/30r18s). That being said, I think 3.73s are stupid short with the factory intake manifold. Trying to race the car with a realistic 7000 rpm rev limit was extremely frustrating, had to shift way too much. Car felt like a stock fox body with a T5 and 4.10s. Guys like that but just too much gear IMO. With the CJ setup and ~8000 rpm it is perfect on race tires, and a bit tall on factory rubber.

Something people tend to forget with these cars is 5th is 1:1, not fourth. So it ****s the whole concept we have had beaten into our heads in regards to gearing. From that perspective (going through traps in 4th), 3.73s are more like 4.56s. I think they hit the limiter at like 114 in fourth with 3.73s?

Haha, it's a fun car for sure, but I think you're making the right choice for your intended purpose. My car is set up better for the drag strip or roll racing than cruising back roads.

I think they took the oil squirters out of the engine for the 13/14's. Other than that I don't think there were any mechanical differences. The 15+ engines do have stronger internals if you're thinking about a supercharger down the road. 11-14 cars can easily hold up to 600 RWHP though.

Like Mark mentioned, the 1:1 5th gear sort of distorts the perception of how gears affect the newer cars. 4th gear in the newer cars is 1.32:1 instead of 1:1 as it used to be. If you crunch the numbers a 3.55 gear in an 11+ car would be about the same as 4.11 in older cars when taking into consideration the trans ratios and taller tires on newer cars.

Thanks for the info, Mark!

Ray, I did see something on Corral or somewhere (I can't find it) where somebody did crunch all the numbers... one huge spreadsheet with rpm, trans ratios, rear ratios, speeds, etc. Had the MT-82 with 3.73 about on par with 4.10 in the TR-3650. new 3.55 like an old 3.90 and new 3.31 like an old 3.73... if that makes sense??? With the 3.31, you can def. hit 60 in 2nd and (if you go to the track) 110-115 in the quarter around 6,000rpm in 4th. That's not really ideal, closer to redline would be best. I'd say 3.55 is probably the perfect gear for these cars... on stock tire height!

Ron/Mark... do you guys have an aftermarket shifter? What brand? I've read these stock shifters (11-14) are grubbage.

My '01 had like 115k on it, ended up getting 13.5k after 3 months a couple years ago. Good friend had an '04Z, perfect in every way, 6k miles, ended up trading it in on a GT500 and getting something offensive for it. Almost sold it for 24k and just got sick of waiting. The asking price doesn't reflect what they actually sell for. Of course some do, but most sit unsold for months.

It is worth noting that I would take an '11-up GT any day of the week over a C5Z. Didn't like it much as a street car. As a race car, at the same hillclimbs my '14 is slightly quicker with a ton of mods and the Z was bone stock. So great track cars, not great street cars IMO.

Really don't know. Very GMish. People constantly wave at you (old corvette guys). People scoff at the car. Hard to put a finger on it, I just didn't get the "please pound me into oblivion I am so much fun" feeling I get with Mustangs. Just felt cold to me. My Cobalt SS/TC compared to my SRT4 was the same way. Cobalt was just joyless and cold. Better performance car in every way, but just didn't hit me the way the SRT4 did.

C6 is better than the C5Z in every way...... and you can get them way cheaper, b/c people seem to think the Z's are actually collectible, or some crazy crap..... plus, C5Z's were all FRC's, which look like poop compared to the targa cars (imho)... of course, they only made 352 speedway white Z06s in '01. would be hard to find. :coocoo:

damn, Travis... somebody has been researching C5Z. i'm not that invested... probably wouldn't even travel to Wexford for that red one.

I will own a C5Z at some point in my life, timeless (from the outside)

Really don't know. Very GMish. People constantly wave at you (old corvette guys). People scoff at the car. Hard to put a finger on it, I just didn't get the "please pound me into oblivion I am so much fun" feeling I get with Mustangs. Just felt cold to me. My Cobalt SS/TC compared to my SRT4 was the same way. Cobalt was just joyless and cold. Better performance car in every way, but just didn't hit me the way the SRT4 did.

I thought my C6 was joyless and cold at first but it won me over, the C7 is just something different and special all together and I feel it every time I drive it.

I see the merit for cars that can be driven close to their limits on the street without the fear of death as the Corvettes at times can feel like they want to kill you. I've often thought about grabbing a 4th car, something lower in power that can be pounded on the street.

I agree with this. Not that my car is any street monster, but there are times where if I get a little out of hand then pedestrians may die. I kinda want something that is just loud but not enough power to really get in trouble.

My would say that my Mustang is at the "kill pedestrians" point too with having fun on the street but I don't know. Just something that still makes me giggle when I sidestep it at 50mph in 2nd that the Z just didn't give me. What's wierd is the Z actually got great mileage and once I got the factory seat out was pretty comfy.

I never got the C5 dialed in either, was constantly trying to kill me. Never figured out what was up with it. Tried to kill me like 7 times on this run.

Was it still on factory transverse leaf spring setup? I know a downside of that setup is getting unsettled on bumps when turning.

I know coilovers are the common answer given to delete the transverse leafs and make the car handle bumps mid turn a hell of a lot better. idk. Never had a problem at NHSCC or PittRace but I could see how a hillclimb may introduce situations that highlight the stock suspension weakness.

I dunno but lots of track guys love the switch on corvetteforum.

After installing Pfadt adjustable coilovers (and all the other stuff I listed up above) and removing the leafs everything felt amazing. No more wheel hop, no more tentativeness with center of gravity around corners and a hell of a lot less cross talk, or what I presume to be cross talk. I attribute this to the coilovers but also loosing the leafs, however I don't have experience with coilovers *and* leaf springs, so there may not be that much of a difference.

Don't forget - back in the 1970's people thought $5k for a used 427 Cobra was nuts. How'd that turn out 20 years later? 1993 Cobra R's are rare - and the last one built makes it cool - and the perfect condition and 2-digit miles really makes the value jump. But I wonder what the reason is? An investment opportunity? At 100k is there anything left, will it go up or will the bottom fall out? I feel sick about dropping $17k on a car I barely get to drive, $100k for a car just to look at would drive me nuts, but I guess if I had the money.
