View Full Version : Pissed off by guy on Craigslist over tires.

I called a guy tonight about tires he had on Craigslist. He said he still had them when I talked to him. I told him that I woud definitely be down tomorrow to get them. If someone calls me on an item I am selling on Craigslist, I will hold them for a person. Do you think that dickhead would have held them. NO ****ing way!

Did you need $120 that bad ??????????

I picked up a short block from Ron from his Mustang. HE made sure that I had the opportunity to buy his short block. HE held on to the short block for me. That is what car guys do. Yet the guy on Craiglist could not give me the opportunity to pick them up tomorrow when I said I wanted them! REALLY!!!!

I hope he takes the $120 and buys himself some integrity because he has none!

That sucks Don - I haven't had anything but good luck on CL except for when people say they're coming and don't show.

Thanks for the kind words though! Any progress with the motor? Haven't talked to you in a while.

Just started back to work after being unemployed three months. I have it on my list. I have all the major components just need to get gaskets, and ARP bolt kit. I found a set of perfect 245 45 17 but "MR. I need my money now" could not wait 16 hours for me to pick them up! Seriously, every time I tried to get part from anyone in Beaver Falls I had problems!

After years of dealing with Ford Focus owners I won't hold anything for someone I don't know. 90% of the time they have no intention of buying. Mustang guys are at least a bit better.

I don't hold anything either, first guy there with money it's gone. To many people say they are coming and never show.

If I am selling something, I give someone the opportunity to get a shot at what they called for. I give them the same courousy that I would expect. The guys I have dealt with on Steel City Stangs have been real good with that. I have always appreciated dealing with the guys on here.

And the time between I talked to the guy and told him I was coming down was 2 hours before they were sold. If I would have not showed on Saturday, then the next giy can get them. Atleast he let me know they were sold. If I would have made the ride to "The Falls" I would have been pissed....WORST than I am now!

That happened to me a while back. Saw a mustang I wanted and emailed at 8pm for his address and told him I would come buy it and asked if he wanted a deposit. Got his address but never answered my question for the deposit. Gave him a call the next day at 8am and said I was on the road does he prefer a bank draft or cash? Told me someone was driving away with it.

People, in general, can be real douchebags.

Honestly, I don't blame the guy. I've sold enough stuff on craigslist to know that half the people that call you won't ever buy it. Whoever shows up first and puts cash in my hand, gets the product.
Now, if someone is coming to get it, and I get another text, I will say hey, someone is coming to look at it right now, if they don't buy I'll let you know.

I will not hold anything ether. Guy wanted me to hold my boat for sale "for a week or so" to get
the money together. Told him no, sold it the next day to guy with cash. I don't play that hold it for me game unless they put some sort of money down.

I will not hold anything either. I've played that game before. Even with people on this site..never again. If it's something you need/want bad enough, you will show up with cash.

Well that's the buyers fault for either not paying for it ahead of time via paypal or whatever, or not sending a deposit for bigger purchases. I don't blame you at all for not holding stuff unpaid.

I get all that - but the seller should say first-come-first-serve if that's what he's going to do.

Been burned a few times holding stuff on CL and passing on other buyers, only to have it sit longer when the original person did not come through. Cash in hand, no holds.

I find alot of the responses surprising since everyone I have dealt with on here have been pretty cool with me. They always allowed me to come and get the items we discussed and purchase. I can say that not one person on ths website has sold an item before I came to look at it.

Cant be pissed about someone not holding an item unless you prepaid or put down a deposit

Holding will get ya screwed

If someone doesn't say first with cash gets it - and sells it when they know you have made plans to come and buy - then the seller is being a dick IMO.

Buying from here and from CL are two totally different scenarios. Here, you somewhat have a "friendship". CL is just a total stranger selling an item to another total stranger.

I rarely will "hold" things on forums as well unless someone I actually know and can somewhat trust.

Or others can vouch for, then I would hold something within reason.

Because of situations like the one I just had with my forgestars is why people don't hold things. Had a guy offer to buy them. I agreed to meet in Bedford since he was traveling from eastern pa. He was going to the OC car show this weekend and asked if I could meet him during the day on Monday. I agreed and re-arranged my work schedule to accommodate. Now this is after a million texts and assurances he is buying them. Last night at 11 he texts me and says he changed his mind. Now bad enough I changed my schedule to make this happen, but what if I had passed on a sale because this douche had sworn on a stack of bibles he was buying them, Id be out even more. The great majority of people's word is worth nothing anymore and most are impulsive tards who's interests change every 5 minutes. Now I've never had any issue with people on here, but this is pretty close knit, but craigslist and worse facebook are havens for jack-offs. Rant over

I hear ya there - unless it is someone here I always say first with the cash gets it. But I do make it clear up front.

Yeah, on here I hold things for a few days and people have done the same for me. But craigslist? First with cash. Been screwed too many times. Even happened on corner-carvers.com, guy changed his mind at the last second. Only way I hold anything is cash non refundable deposit.
