Well, I finally have some time to put up a few pics of the car for you guys to see. I traded my 68 Chevy C10 straight up for it. It's an 85 Monte SS. Sat in storage for a little over 20 years. Nice low mile car. Previous owner was an idiot. Spray bomb white on some trim, did a shitty job. Kicked the left quarter. Other than that, it's. A seriously solid car. Doors were gone but all G body doors are junk.

Anyways...

That's where I ended yesterday. Changed the rear to an 87-88 style. I had the car all the way apart to put the doors on, take them back off then paint jams. Back on. The doors were on and off the car about 8 times. Got all body lines almost perfect. The hood is a steel 2" from AMD. Perfect fitment. Would definitely buy from there again. Worth the money. Painted the inside of the fenders and under side of the hood then assembled again. Many many hours in prep to get it looking like this.

Next is the Grand National rear end. Then the engine swap.

Yeah, I already gave that a thought but the black car I bought had a fresh GN rear in it already. Otherwise I would have done 9" I still may sooner or later.

Hell no. Life steps in and throws a few curve balls here and there. It's going to be at least another month. Then I need to do some shake downs with it and program the MSD digital 7. It might be on the street in a couple weeks but that's even doubtful right now.
Toss in my son playing baseball and having double headers left and right then playoffs. Then he's doing all stars. I might get a day a week if I'm lucky.
About all I got done this weekend was fitting the Afco radiator and figuring out where to mount the fan controller for the electric fans. Trimming and making the fans fit nicely.

wick
06-06-2016, 06:33 AM
I did get a brand new gas tank over the weekend. Going to weld on the CE sump box and get that ready to go in at some point. I might just let that hold till fall time and run a mechanical fuel pump for right now. That will save time in getting it out of the garage and running sooner.

Well, aside from the rear spoiler, cowl hood and 89 iroc wheels, this one is pretty stock looking. I won't put the decals back on. Not much a fan of them. The aftermarket does offer various sizes of the factory aluminum wheels now but I just never really liked them much.
The black car went to my ex brother in law and he is talking about doing the stock wheels like you mentioned on it. But he also talks a lot! Haha

The throttle response is absolutely instant. It kinda sounds like a, um, dirt late model when they are coming down the back straight to start a feature. They snap the throttle to clear it out a little. That instant rev then back to idle...

I could drive it around gently but any throttle in second it just slips. So. Transmission is out and taking it out to Janis transmission in Akron tomorrow morning. He came highly recommended by PTC and Rossler.
I knew it was on borrowed time but I as hoping it would have made it till the end of summer at least. Oh well.

Yeah, I know. I'm already over $700 in my converter for the 200-4r. I had a long conversation with Rossler a coupoe days ago. His thoughts were seeing as I'm this far in the 200, just stay with it and have Janis build be one. They both say it should hold with my power. I'm a little over 600 wheel. If I spray it, then I'm back where I am now. But to do the 4l80, I was looking at almost 5000 from rossler. That's with the stand alone and another 4000 converter.

Your motor is 600 rwhp na?

A stock 4l80 will handle 700rwhp easy i know this from experience.....you dont need a controller, you can use the box anf shift the trans manually.

If you are indeed at 600 rwhp befpre spray that 200r4 onnspray will be a papet weight

At only 700 into a converteryour better off dumping tjat trans and converter to someone and cutting loses.

I sold my mildly built 80 with billet circle d converter for 2000...it would of took all your combo would make

Yeah, 600 Na rear wheel.
You talking about the "Black box" rossler offers?
I didn't really want to manually shift this thing but it seems to be coming down to that now.

In the beginning I just wanted a nice looking, cammed 305 or even 350 with AC to cruise in the summer. Yeah , well, we see where I am now. Once I back half it this winter I have a full on racecar. That's about when I should have it here according to what the fabricator says.

Seriously? I wish you would have said Something with that trans. I woulda bought it in a heart beat.

I mean I see turbo GN's pushing 800+ wheel and they hold the whole season for the most part. I'm not looking to track whore thing every week. Maybe a few times wach summer but that's about it.

I'm actually doing something with my car and getting results. I'm not stuck on 10 year old shit. This car, N/A is already making more then my Mustang did and 90% of every other detail queen here. What are your cars doing ? Oh. That's right.. nothing except the lawn chair nationals! Except for mister Myers that is.

I know where the car is. I recently saw it and was in it. It's still red. Still looks about the same. Can easily be bought also.

About 50 members here wanted more track days. Pj puts it together and all of a sudden there are more excuses that Hillary has for lying and committing fraud than I have ever seen. Only 2 or 3 people sign up for them. Not one person saying they wanted them. just a pile of crickets...Don't point any fingers at me because I never once said I would like some track time. I guess applying ventshades, tire shine and wax is more important. Or talking about some fancy paint correction crap. Unbelievable.

Lisa's car has a 400 in it for track
Buick v6 turbo iant going to make same power delivery as a n20 v8...the hit form the spray is gonna be harsh vs the tq of the turbo setup
Also lisa's car is light

Its 2016 and big tire just isnt the way unless you street race...local buddy went 1.15 60' on a 275 radial at prp

Also depending on gear ratio of that 200r4 it wont like the spray if you supply a man shot

My new 210-xhd from rossler has a 1.97 and its for a turbo truck....my buddy with the 1.15 60' has a 1.6 first gear and sprays 600 out of hole

I havent made a pass this year ans last year only got to make grudegment day but did make few 8s passes...Cocaine is apart for a different route or i would of made passes this year.....im not stopping till i go 7.9s with truck

As for rest of members many do talk...seems as only way to get action on site is for me to build and rebuild or redo my trucks or for that sublak guy and his mach 1 and now your monte

I sae your old car....wtf is all i got to say

Seriously save your money and stay away from the 200r4...uncle carl is god but no way would i invest into a 200r4 for a monte.....th400 or 4l80 for your build

My old 4l80 is sitting not far from your old house...supposed to go in a 2010 camaro i built

George C

One thing is not everyone has the budget to spend on projects..It takes an assload of money to try and compete with todays standards of vehicles...look for example at yhe capris on this site...hoe much money does he have into it? The new ecoboost stang runs 10s with minimal mods minus the cost of car which also brings up the topic of its easier for many to go dealer sign a loan for 6 yrs and then biy bolt ons vs building a vehicle

Then you look at how radical some old combos are and how slow they are vs how fast you can go with a showroom stock vehicle

Other thing is the deffintion of strert has ppls pussies bleeding....theres a street car that ran 7.58@180 not long ago many will say blown racecar and they drive a bolt on car...so this creates butthurt or loss of interest in hobby when they cant compete with how fast cars are in 2016

Fact is this sport hobby or etc you call it has evolved into some insanely fast vehicles....

Then you have the vehicles that are so butchered together they are dangerous to everyone when they make a pass or they do nothing but have peoblems...

In the end parking lot flexing may be best for many with a bolt on car payment

wick
07-15-2016, 03:26 PM
I agree with all of that. The way cars have evolved from the factory now is amazing.

Shawn never said anything about her having a 400 in her car for track and I talk to him every day. No big deal though. Whatever works for her. Yeah, a turbo Buick isn't going to make anywhere near the hit off the line we get from ours. Completely different game there.

George C
07-15-2016, 03:50 PM
Yup she even carried a spare for drag week and his silver car is a 400 trans car as well

So save that money...sell what you have go 80e if you want OD or toss a 28" on rear and run a 400.....even with 373s and 28s youll be fine cruising

So, I figured what the hell..take my car down to the lawn chair nationals this afternoon. A buddy of mine was there. He comes up to me and says while he was buying a shirt from Lisa O'Connor at the PID display, she says to him...holy shit, that's an amazing sounding Monte and looks awesome. I think that's my brothers Friend.
Now, this is what was said to me by him and I have no idea to the truth of it. Was kinda funny though. I get a parking spot and open the hood. People flocked around to see what was making the ground shake.

Anyways, these silly little trips help shake out the gremlins associated with a full build like this. Suddenly I noticed my volts dropped to zero. Turns out it's the cluster causing it. Only gaugein the factory dash I use is the volts and fuel sender. This puts me in a position of saying screw it...remobe all of it and do my own deal there. Looks like a winter project. I'm done wrenching on this thing. Time to enjoy it now. I have waaaaayyyyyyy too many hours in the build of this car.

wick
07-21-2016, 01:20 AM
I must add...the lawn chair nationals lived up to the name. There were more saved spots with phuckin lawn chairs than there were cars there. By the time I left there were 600+ vehicles. Probably 100 or so didn't belong there. Idiots bringing new mustangs and vettes. I wouldn't expect anything less from those type of people though. Idiots had about 30 spots taken up with brand new stuff. Who wants to see that?? Mustans, vettes, caddies.. leave that shit home.

Bottom line, nothing has changed in the last 6 years. Hahaha

I suspect the car will never go through tech, but fuel pressure regulator can not be mounted like that per both NHRA and IHRA. Most of the fuel system needs to be 6" in front of the flex plate area.

The only fuel system components allowed on the firewall is a gauge isolator "if" braided lines are used. Like I said, will it really ever be teched? Not likely, but 6" ahead of the flying bits off the back of the block is the rule. That's why you see so many mounted on inner fenders and such.

There was a 8.2 camaro with a 6 pt
There was 8.1 mustang that flipped with a 10pt

I'm in the process now of consolidating my properties to put up a 30x30. I bought the lot behind my house last year. Just my 2 cents, but I would relocate the regulator, first and foremost for safety, secondly to avoid a potential fail point at tech (at any track). I have seen ring gears break off of flexplates and inflict damage bouncing around.

I finally pulled my transmission out today and getting ready to put in the new built one. Having these hooker 1 3/4 long tubes and taking them off is putting me one step closer to going with the Scoenfeld headers. Those are 1 7/8 stepped to 2" with a 3.5" collector. These hookers pissed me off more than you can possibly imagine. I guess we will see. The only reason I didn't get them before was the HVAC box. You can't run them with it in place. Now that I don't have it, might as well put them on now.

Thanks a lot everyone. The car is really fun to drive. Traction is a serious issue which is in the process of being taken care of now. My girlfriend bought me a set of Mickey 275-60-15 drag radials for Christmas. I'm cutting the frame to give more clearance. It's not really needed for the 275's but won't hurt. Changing the exhaust a little and a couple other things. I'm really considering a plate for summer. Or just go all out with an induction solutions setup. Not sure yet.

wick
12-29-2016, 12:14 AM
The other consideration I was having was going to Holley EFI and using a crank trigger. That will give more useage with the MSD digital 7 programmable box. Basically, the sky is the limit with that thing. I could easily make 1500 HP or more.

wick

I can say this much. The neighborhood knows when the car fires up. My ex brother in law lives a few streets over and can hear it. Haha.
I'm definitely looking forward to putting some more seat time and miles on it this summer. These late night hits are getting old. She and I took it on a decent trip a little while ago. It actually ran perfectly. Did as expected. The cam definitely takes away some gentle driving but doesn't really bug me at all. A little flick on the vertical pedal takes that all away instantly. The main issues come with deep throttle in second gear. Tires just haze through third. Let off some and get a little traction. It flat plants you back hard. Shift through fourth.

This is all with a 265-60 tire. I'm hoping the Mickey's do better.
