Hey everyone, im looking for a 68 fastback my dad owned when i was younger but had to sell, I'd like to buy it back for him. Currently i hear a guy named Jim owns it. somewhere north of Pittsburgh, and its a black S-code with a gold stripe. He put a 428CJ and a 4speed. If anyone has any information about this car please let me know. My cell phone number is 724-678-2006, Thanks in advance!

Sounds like Jim Smith's car - black '68 fastback with a 428 4-speed, gold C-stripe, and Cragars. I can definitely appreciate you wanting to find the car and I doubt it is for sale...but you never know. It is one of the straightest black cars I've ever seen. Jim and his wife are also some of the nicest people I've met since getting into the car hobby back in the early 90's. I don't have his contact info but some guys around here might be able to help.

If I see it at the track this weekend (PID-Keystone nostalgia event - I believe I've seen it there for it in the past) I'll see if I can get some info from him.

I just got off the phone with my best buddy growing up Jim Smith. He wife Margie, just had serious surgery at Allegheny General Hospital this morning. The next 24 hours are the most critical. Our prayers are with her. She was still in recovery, but he gave me some quick info on his car. He bought it from a guy named Marty, couldn't remember last name, who worked at the Pittsburgh bulk mail center. He lived in Peters Twp. He was going to sell Jim the car and then changed his mind. About 6 months later he called Jim and offered him the car again. Margie told Jim not to hesitate and go buy it. A dentist from Pittsburgh was the original owner and Marty was the second. It was painted blue, had 1969 high back seats, a partial cage, Stewart Warner gauges cut into the dash and 3" rear fender flairs. That's all I got for the moment. I hope this sheds some light on your quest for your Dad's Mustang.

I hope everything goes well with her recovery. That is the car, my dads name is Marty and sold the car back in 94 when I was young. Ever since then all he's ever talked about is how much he would love to have that car back, I'm glad to hear it is still around. I'd love to be able to get in touch with Jim once his wife recovers. Thank you so much for the help everyone!

I'll let Jim know that you would like to talk to him. I'm sure he'll touch base with you once he has Margie home and settled in. I'll give him your phone number.

Hi i was just wondering if you heard from Jim at all, I hope his wife is doing better. I'm in town for the week before i leave on deployment and i was hoping i would be able to come up and see the car sometime. If you could just pass that information along to him that would be great. Thank you again!

I'm sorry to have to tell you this, Jim's wife Margie passed away from complications from the surgery. Her funeral was Weds Oct.5th. Needless to say, he's not doing well. We're supposed to go drag racing this Sat. and I'm not sure he's going to do that. I just don't think this is the right time to talk about or see his car. When you get back from deployment makes more sense. Let me know when your back home. I have you phone number and will see that he gets it.

I know Jimmy has had offers of 75k for this car and turned them down. I think his plan is to give it to his grandson when he is of age. The car is stunning and runs like a bitch.

I had some bad experience with them down there, so i take all my stuff up to broughers out in west mifflin.

Randal does not machine anything automotive any longer. Hasn't for a while either. All oil and gas now.

You're better off with savani or ICS.

That's interesting. I've never used them personally.
A lot comes down to personal preference also. As the old saying goes, you can't make everyone happy all the time. You will hear good stories as well as bad ones from every single machine shop.
If you seriously want a good, honest machine shop that puts out serious high end stuff, try Gary Henry. "Henry racing engines". They do from stock rebuilds up to winning dirt late model engines that have set records at many tracks.
Mine was built by Dunk but I don't think he's doing engines any longer.

Yeah. I called him a while back. With the boom of the O&G, he went to making stuff for the drilling rigs and such. He said he got rid of all the automotive stuff.
