Well last weekend I put a new MSD cap and rotor on along with plug wires and new plugs. I took her for a run and about 15 minutes into the drive she shut off. As she sputters down I look at the fuel pressure gauge and she's still reading fine along with temp and oil. I pull over and figured something with the MSD 6AL, so I bypassed it. I started up the car and she ran fine, so I decided to go home. On the way she shut off twice. Each time I she just dies, I pop the hood and look but nothing and then she starts up and runs. I check the plugs, wires and rotor and it all looks fine. Any ideas?? I'm thinking maybe the TFI ignition module on the side of my MSD distributor.

module could be goin bad, usually when they go bad, motor will just crank over.. what about temp sending unit? do you have to let it cool down a bit before starting again?

No I didn't have to let her cool down. Come to think of it the first time I went to start it she would just turn over. I then bypassed the 6AL and she fired, so I figured that was the problem. Then on the way home she shut off twice and restarted and she did hickup a few times where I saw the tach shoot up for no reason.

Check the TFI, is it a grey motorcraft or a white parts store knock off?

It's the one that came with the MSD distrubutor, but I think it's gray or black. I bought the distrubutor used so it's a few years old and was on race car.

My guess would be the 6AL box. I had a 6A box go bad on me and it would do the exact same thing. Except in my case it wouldn't start back up for a while, like an hour or so. Sent the box back to MSD... they said it was fine... put it back in and the car did the same shit. I chased so many stupid parts trying to fix that problem then one day I just said **** it and bought a new box at the parts store and bam problem solved.

It's not the 6AL, it was the first thing I bypassed when the car shut off. It still died twice without it on the way home.

I had an issue with a coil over heating and giving a weak spark. That was on a 429 cj though:innocent:

My vote is for a bad TFI module. Get a Motorcraft when you buy one.
