Do I need to replace the pilot bearing, pressure plate and flywheels bolts when I swap out my clutch/flywheel? 5000 miles on car.
Also do you just hit the PP and Flywheel bolt with an impact to tighten or do I need to get some fancy tool to keep the flywheel from turning?

Jeff you don't need a pilot bearing.
The FW turning tools are sold at auto parts stores.

Buy new FW bolts if you are removing them. Clutch pressure plate bolts can be reused and like Mike said torque everything evenly in the correct pattern+loc-tite.

I have reused the bolts on both of my vehicles. I never replaced the pilot bearing in my ranger and it worked fine for 30000 more miles before I wrecked it. My bronco had the pilot bearing inside the flywheel. They say if you don't have a tool that you can pack the bearing full of grease and then find something that fits snug inside the bearing and tap it in. The grease should push the bearing out. I have never done it but heard from a few that it works well. I would also reccomend getting the flywheel recut or putting in a new one.

Jeff, I replaced my clutch around 11,000 miles and the flywheel still looked brand new. I did nothing other than bolt the new clutch to it. Just make sure you ditch the junk ass stock clutch quadrant!

Not sure about the cobra(will be finding out soon :grumpy: ) but on my 5.0 it had holes in the outside of the flywheel that I just stuck a screw driver through and it would catch on the block and keep the flywheel from turning. I'm sure the flywheel tool isn't too expensive, but that's a cheap alternative that will work just fine :goodidea:

Screwdriver is what I used as well on my GT as well when I did the clutch. Worked fine.

I am affraid of factory PP bolts because of this..... Now i always use ARP or Mr gasket PP bolts. The car this was only a 11.60 car... The bolts broke and the dowls ripped right off...

I have always heard that you should replace the pressure plate bolts, but that you can reuse the flywheel bolts.
It sounds like I'm pressing my luck with my Motorsport clutch and stock '85 T5 in my 12.1 second '66... When it's time for a new motor I'll definitely go for a blow proof bellhousing. Maybe one of those sweet 4-bolt 347's that Tim puts together?? Or a nice forged 383 stroker?? Definitely something that'll hold up to 10+ pounds of boost.....
