Messing around tearing block down thinking it was the original motor. I got the heads off and first thing I noticed was the Felpro gaskets everywhere and then the flat top pistons(4 valve notches). I started cleaning off the mess off top of pistons and see they are stamped .040

Now knowing the short block is a reman(found a very worn sticker on side of block with it saying Beasley Industries No.275806) and that it is a 4.040 bore. I assume it is a late model block since it is machined for the factory roller lifter spider retainer. Will this block still be ok at 4.040 bore? No ridges at top can still see the cross hatch somewhat but it would need honed. Looks to be an old rebuild as timing chain is streched pretty good.

Ed, .040 overbore will still be good but you won't be able to bore it again. If the cylinders still look good I would just clean it up and use it.
