i have an 88 notch t 56 six speed 3:73 gears i had a 331 from dss car only made three passes 12.32@118 12.14@116 11.96@116 then it broke a rod right at the rist pin looks like somone cut it with a saw zall any way i was either goin to go back to the same setup because that car had way more left but i was wondering if a stock 351 bottom end with my heads which are tfs twisted wedge 205 ported by t.e.a flow 321 @600 and cam 232 236 565/575 on a 112 lsa does any one know if a 351 with thoes heads and simular cam bigger prob. if it will run as good or better also a tick flow r intake. any suggestions are welcome thanks. what do you think put it back as a 331 or go 351 then stroke it this winter to 408. thanks guys justin

Depends---depends how much power you want to make and what parts you have.
351W will need new headers, intake, oil pan, and a few other things. If you already have quality parts here for 302, it makes it cost more. If you need to buy stuff from scratch, 351 makes more since especially NA as you can go much bigger cubic inch and the stock block holds at least 200 more hp. I've know a guy that has gone low 10s with a 408 and unported TWs. Your heads will easily support a nice street/strip 408/418. My brother also has a nice forged 418 kit if you are interested.

In my opinion the 331 will work better than a stock bottom end 351w, strokers make more power by nature... And i hate to say i told yah so but this is just another case were a bought short block let loose, i tell you what i have NEVER seen a bought short block hold up... sorry about your luck..

ive heard so many bad things about d.s.s. i dont know if i would take one of there motors for free, as for your question ive never seen an un-stroked 351 out preform a 302 based engine. 351s work great stroked just not in there stock form. i would stick with a 331 and have someone locally put it together for u,

i have a DSS 331 with the same heads that you have and have gone 11.0@126. This was at prp in the heat last summer. The car need suspension work and a tune, it is running super rich, so would definatly say there is more left in that combo.

stroked 351s are pretty sick, they make alot of power real easy..
