I know some of you know a good bit about Jeeps and I really know nothing about them SO if you're were looking for a decent used Jeep what year, model, engine, etc. would you look for? What would you stay away from? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

What kind of Jeep. I've had two Cherokee's (92 & 96) and both were indestructible. I've heard the auto's in the Grand Cherokee's aren't to good. 4.0 FTW.

Thanks Cam probably a 2000 and up Grand Cherokee. Definitely gotta be a 4.0L. What's the deal with the I6 Engine? And anyone ever own an AWD GC?

4.0 ftw wranglers will probably get worse that your cobra i think 15 on highway and 10 in city is what my buddy gets in his 4.0 5spd.. they are awesome off roading, but the GC are nice just make sure you get the 4.0 or maybe a HEMI.. hehehe..

My company car is a 2004 Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L V8. I would only get one with the V8. The gas mileage is only 1 mpg less that the 4.0L I6, but there is NO comparison driving it. I average about 17mpg in it around town and that's with my bad driving habits. On the highway going between home and York, PA, I usually average right around 21mpg driving 80 to 90 mph. :D

Holy hell that MPG sucks thanks for the info dude. I never knew those things were so bad on gas and you're right my cobra gets like 17-18 highway.

Ed, what years are the V8 available in?

New wranglers get 19 HWY and 14 or 15 city. They are cool, you have to trade some luxury for fun.

I'm working on RebelGT's awd GC. It rides smooth as glass, has just enough power, but the gas milage is not the best. We're taking the 5.2 out, and I built him a 5.9 that going in. Its getting a NV3550 Manual swap, and a selectable transfer case while where at it.

Oh, and no. Viper ed has nothing better than a Hemi!

i used to have a lifted jeep grand cherokee limited...it was a 94.....it was a 5.7 liter, all wheel drive.....biggest piece of shit i ever owned....the tranny was terrible, would slip constantly. if i were to get another, get something newer, and not lifted, which is a sign that the living shit has been beat out of it.

Mike, my mom has a GC and I don't care for it. I find it hard to see out of and I can't find a comfortable driving position in it. Are you looking for something to go offroad in, or just a 4wd?

My cousin and my wife's former boss had 4 GC's between them and they all had transmission problems. I'll bet thats why Jeep is advertising that new lifetime powertrain warranty.

See that's kinda what I thought when I've ridden in them too Paul. I've only ever been in like two though so I wasn't sure. The other thing was I thought the steering was loose as hell and the tranny was rough as some people have mentioned. This would be a zero off road vehicle.

Mike, here is what Molly and I just got. Its also a zero offroad vehicle, but with traction control, AWD, and stability control it should go where ever I want it to. We got 23.7mpg in it with only 300 miles on the clock on a road trip to New Hampshire averaging 72-75mph most of the way. I absolutely LOVE it! Its completely loaded, including the vista roof!

I had a 89 lifted Cherokee and a 96 Cherokee, both 4.0's, Cam is right they will go through anything, but the gas mileage is terrible and they all have that 4.0 Knock
