Okay, but are you sure that #1 was on the compression stroke at TDC? Pull #1 plug, put your finger over the plug hole to make sure its on compression stroke, then align with TDC and drop the dizzy in pointing at #1.

BTDT..

turn it over by hand or with the key with finger over the spark plug hole?

is this the same as the 180 out?

im gonna try that in the morning. getting kinda late to try to start it tonight

I dont know, on a 4 cylinder I can turn it with a ratchet, you might need to have someone bump the key to do it with a V8?? Just bump it until it pushes your finger out then rotate the balancer a little by hand to get it TDC. Yeah it would be 180 out if its not on TDC compression.

i meant rockers... you know what i meant... i have just seen alot of people adjust the rockers with the lifters not pumped up... and that instruction sheet is a little vauge. to adjust the intake valve you must rotate the engine until the exhaust valve of the same cyl starts to move, then go to 0 lash of the intake valve and give it 1/2-3/4 turn, to adjust the exhaust valve, rotate the engine until the intake vavle goes all the way open and 3/4 back shut, then go to 0 lash on the exhaust valve and give it 1/2-3/4 turn, and always rotate the engine in its normal rotation (clockwise). this is the ONLY correct way to adjust your valves...

yeah thats what we did tim. would the rockers being possibly misdone cause it to not turn over at all?

usually with an improper rocker adjustment the engine will still fire, but will pop through the intake and exhaust, thats kinda wierd that its not firing at all???, give it a tiny shot of either just to see. are the plugs getting wet with fuel??

Do you have a good seal on the intakes? A nasty vacuum leak will cause this also. Happened to me before.

The 1st time I did HCI back in the day, I did the rockers with no pump in the lifters. It is easy to do that and easy to be off 180 with the dist. Even with that it sould at least burp. How do you know you are getting spark?

when i had the coil wire off and tried cranking it i had spark going around the coil. maybe the coil is bad????

im goin try arch a spark.

but the timing light worked hooked to the plug wire so id have to have spark, correct?

Sounds like you may have spark. Arch it at the plug.

quik told me to loosen the rockers and run it to temp and then tighten them down.

Great aproach! Do that it will pump the lifters and hopefully they are loose enough for your valves to close. ;)

we got it up and running. ran like shit. so we went through the oil. not too too bad.

put new 20w50 in it this morning. ran it for 5 -10 min in the driveway. pulling no vacuum and smoking like hell. sounds like its pulling or puffing air from somewhere. oil was a little milky. i think its my lower intake manifold gasket....
