Copied and pasted from the corral.

Took the car down to the dyno yesterday after having it torn down replacing valvetrain parts in an attempt to fix a high RPM power drop I was encountering last time I was on the rollers. The last time on the dyno the car made 453 RWHP @ 5900 rpms and shortly after that power dropped due to instability in the valvetrain. I know another member of this board made 454 @ around 6800 rpms with race gas in the tank and a bunch of timing. So I figured 453 @ only 5900 with 91 octane and only 30 degrees total timing was pretty good But of course the valvtrain issue needed to be sorted out to see what this setup could really do.

At the end of the session the car was puting down 466 RWHP and 427 RWTQ!!! All at a nice comfortable 6200 rpms Again, on pump gas, 91 octane and only 31 degees total timing. I'm very pleased with this setup now.

That car has been around for a while now and was the first 10 second NA 347 94-95 car that I ever heard of. From what I've heard, the guy can drive the hell out of that car!

Looks like he got together on some aspects of the suspension with Kevin Slaby from Baseline Suspension. From what I gather it has gone in the .70's with a 1.46 60' on a drag radial.

Definitely a stout power producer @ around 1.58 FWHP per c.i.d. You gotta love it when time is spent to dial in the peripherals and the power is unleashed. It is common to see the avg. pump gas 347 struggle to eclipse 400 to the tire.

Joe,

this guy at HiTech likes larger intake duration than exhaust. He seems to be successful with it, I'm not sure how he plays with the opening & closing events on the cam. Take a look at some of his cams:

This looks the top secert cam:
Specs: 248/244 duration, 108 lobe sep, .584/.576 lift This is the big dog. If you are looking for a cam to go really fast, this is it. In a 347, this one made 430+ RWHP & ran 10.90's at 125 MPH.

I wonder how he got those 315 rear tires not to stick out? I love the looks of those wide tires - I might have to do that to my '94.

Its not hard to fit a 315 on a 94-98. I run 315's on my car. It just takes a 10.5-11" wheel with around 6.75-6.9" of back spacing.

How do you like your 315's? Any problems with them or change in tracking of the car? Ever get caught in the rain?

I love them. They look like they were made for the car and really fill the wheel wells nicely. They didn't change the tracking of the car at all, even in ruts created by heavy trucks in pavement. I've had it in the rain more than I would have liked to, and as long as the water doesn't have any real depth to it they are fine, these nitto DR's actually hook very well in the rain.

Did you have to narrow your rear end or run a spacer? I assume not based on your prior post. What about your speedometer - Did you have to change the drive/driven gear? Did they improve traction/handling much? I will probably paint my car before I buy new wheels, but would like to find out as much as I can for planning. Thanks.

There are no modifications necessary if you get the right back spacing. If you run the replica wheels which typically have a 6.9" BS you may have to flip your quad shocks, but I went with 6.75" since my wheels were custom made and I didn't even have to flip the quad shocks. All I did was bolt them on and go, no other mods were necessary. My speedometer is correct (I had to change the speedo gears due to my rear gears, not the tire), but the tire height in nearly identical to stock. I have a 315-35-17 tire which has about the same diameter as the 245-45-17's that they replaced. They improved traction tremendously. With my old 302 combo I could go full throttle in every gear including 1st, with a 245-50-16 nitto DR I couldn't do that. Now with the 331 it will spin 80% of the time in 1st, but it still hooks in 2nd90% of the time. With the old 302 combo I cut high 1.6 60's on the 315's at the track. The car handles exceptionally well for the suspension mods I have and I attribute a lot of that to the tires.

I still have it, I just need to find the time and money to get it painted. I'm still unsure of what color to paint it. A buddy of mine is sending me two A pillar exterior pieces so that I can paint them black and put on the car in order to see what it looks like with a black top before i actually paint the stock pieces.
