That sucks Mike. What do you attribute the failure to?

hard to say guys. i do run a manual tensioner but i know for a fact i don't run it as tight as some people do. im know it adds extra stress on the crank but it really shouldn't have failed, especially from the tensioner. i have heard of a few faulty cranks from the factory and i wouldn't be surprised if mine was just weak or defective. it's really no big deal, im just happy i was able to et as well as i did on the oem long block...on to bigger and better things now:awsome:

Thinking about it, that is probably Ford used a supported lower pulley setup from the factory. So the stress of the blower drive isn't way out there away from the front bearing and putting additional stress on the crank.
I did see somewhere that there was a reported failure or two on these cranks. Maybe you can take it in for warranty work? :)

HAHAHAHA Yeah, right. Thats just plain funny. Sorry Mike.

Sorry to hear.....guess a manual tensioner combined with a larger lower puts enough stress on the crank snout to snap it!! Yikes....
9.75 though.....sweet....:goodidea:
I heart alum. blocks.

well i talked with Al Papitto last night. he pretty much confirmed what my self and many others figured to be the main contributor to the crank failure. i run a different aftermarket lower pulley setup which deletes the oem cage that adds extra support to the snout of the crank. i also run an aftermarket belt tensioner so that certainly adds more stress to the snout as well. Al said he has seen this happen before, this wont be an issue with the new combo!!!:Devious:

I won't install an aftermarket tensioner.
I heard that JDM might still be selling caged aftermarket lower kits also. That would have probably helped in this case.
