Ok well ive been seeing videos of foxes revving to like 6k rpm and higher and was wondering if there is something wrong with mine that it doesnt... im using a stock tach and can only rev to like 4k rpm (could go higher but dont want something blowing up) are 302s just not able to rev real high, or *Gulp* is there something wrong with mine? :censored::hang:

(prolly just a REALLY stupid question)

first off...stock tachs are way off. you can rev a stock 5.0 at 6 grand all day without hurting it, even though most wont keep making power too that high of a rpm

like how far is way off, because if im running through the gears and try to go to like 6 grand it makes weird ****ing noises.. lol

no idea if my motor has ever been rebuilt but the odometer says 156k, so you think my motor would be safe revving to like 5k atleast? lol

and does your tach read lower, or higher at high rpms?

what kinda noises is your motor making? does it start once you get over 4k?

don't worry about noises. smoke and puddles are much worse. :goodidea:

the tach is off some on the newer stuff, too. My rev limiter is SUPPOSED to kick in at 6,150rpm, but I've seen a few hundred higher than that before it happens.

stock cam and Cobra intake = shift point in the neighborhood of 5,300 - 5,500. The weird noise you are hearing could be valve float. Never hurts to put 16 fresh ones in... especially if there's 1.7's in there.

idk maybe my stock tach just reads low at high rpms, so maybe when im hitting 4k its really 5k??

Done a tune-up lately? Sounds like its starting into detonation or pre-ignition ping at the higher revs. Do a tune up and re-set the timing. And run the appropriate fuel for the timing that you have set! Other than that my 87 roller motor loved to rev to 6k ... it mades lots of great V-8 sound and didn't go anywhere!!
