View Full Version : Weighed the Capri

Took the Capri over to MAP's place and weighed it on 4 corner scales. It was just under 3200#'s with me in it. I always race with a full tank of gas, and it was about 3/4's so its close enough to call it 3200 ;) From my favorite calculator....

Initial Readings
READING OUTPUT UNITS
WEIGHT 3200 pounds
TRAP SPEED 111 mph
E/T 12.49 seconds
Dyno Readings
READING OUTPUT UNITS
Total Horsepower 349 bhp
Horsepower Used 324 bhp
Best E/T 12.19 seconds

I knew there was a lot of ET on the table with this thing as I just didnt get the passes in this year to get the suspension happy with all of my time spent in China. That will change this winter as I'm re-doing most of it so it hooks.

The combo is a T-3 at 25 psi, browntops, and a mild big valve iron head with a ranger roller. This is the same combo as my TC plus a NPR intercooler versus the top mount (and a rotated intake).

Interesting, that combo in the TC ran...

Initial Readings
READING OUTPUT UNITS
WEIGHT 3500 pounds
TRAP SPEED 103.27 mph
E/T 13.095 seconds
Dyno Readings
READING OUTPUT UNITS
Total Horsepower 307 bhp
Horsepower Used 308 bhp
Best E/T 13.10 seconds

Although that set up went 105 mph a few times, this was its best TC package. Based on that the NPR was worth just about 40 HP comparing the two. We knew it was badass, but these are about the best numbers for similar set-ups I've seen. I also always iced the IC on the TC, have never touched the NPR.

I also beleive there was more in the Capri if I could have fueled it beter. With the TC and the top mount, I was running 46#'s based fuel pressure, and it was okay. With the Capri and the NPR, I had the regualtor bottomed out at 51#'s base, and it needed more. I now have 55#' injectors, and it "feels" mad stronger. It will now turn the tires in 2nd and 3rd when it hits from a roll, and of course drives through the clutch that held fine prior.

Just a few more points for everyone to consider.

take out the crash bars in the doors, thats like 60lbs, get rid of the steel bumpers for later fiberglass ones, or i like to swiss cheese them, weight is your worst enemy.

Go fast with the weight you have, its more impressive than cutting the car up.

Right now, I'm not as worried about reducing weight, as I was in knowing the weight to do the HP estimates. Before the car gets cut up, the driver needs to go on a diet. This is after all, a driver, and some level of safety needs to stay. I did pick up an aluminum rear bumper, and will be trimming a few bits to make up for anything I add. This car weighs the same now as it did when I bought it, and I added a 8.8, DS loop, intercooler, steel charge pipes, etc.

I was pretty pleased to be in the 350 hp range with the little that is done to this thing. Next year will be a lot more fun with injectors, a way to tune (TwEECer and wideband), and a "real" cam ;) I dont know of anyone thats done 400 with a stock T3 :D

I didn't say I was trying to impress people, but a stock weight car that goes fast is more impressive than a cut up car that runs the same.I'm not arguing with you Timmy, but if you can do that with a mostly stock fox, you outa start racing the nmra factory stock class then. I just wouldn't cut my car up.

What should my 91 notch weigh with the 2.3T in it?

If you work on weight reduction 2700# is possible.. There's a few light ones over TurboFord. Flanders Mustang is around 3000#..

That notch is pretty light to start, might end pretty light is you watch the details of the car....a dressed, iron headed 2.3 isnt much lighter than an aluminum headed 5.0, so its all in the car for weight savings IMO.
