We gave them a hell of a fight, but unfortunately the Redwings prevail.

we played like crap i thought.....
i'm so sick of seeing us NOT get in their face on defense and clear the puck along the boards everytime we get it like we are penalty killing. People wonder why we cannot get shots off on Detroit, its cause they get in our face and we dont do the same when they have the puck.
either way, good season. glad the pens made it that far.

I look at it as the Penguins as a very young team, and the Redwings with players that have more years under their belts. They have the experience. I'm proud that the Penguins made it to the cup.

Exactly, that was painfully to watch the Pens finger **** one another up and down the ice. They looked like a farm club compared to Detroit. They were def. out-talented the whole series. Did they not watch ANY game footage as the series went by? Hey its 2 on 2, lets dump it again, looked like the Pens of the 80s.

ya i figured that maybe after game 2 the coaches and players alike would've made some adjustments, but they seemed to play the same all series.
We defiantly got beat by a better team i thought.

Yeah in your face Detroit, YOU have to pick last in the next draft! Ha! Who wants that burden.
Congrats to the Redwings for they were the better team by far.
Can only say thanks to the Pens for one helluva ride this season. Be interesting to see what they do offseason to better themselves.
Now for the other pro team in Pittsburgh...LETS GO STEELERS
F the Pirates

It's also united this city and made people that dont like hockey, like my dad, start to get into it. "Go Pens" is spray painted on the pavement on Boston Hollow Road near the Boston Bridge.
Safe to say that no team's fans are like Pittsburgh's.

This is not a football post but does show a Penquins comparison with the Steelers.
1995 Steelers, Super Bowl 30, 16 years to get back to the championship game..... Kick the crap out of Dallas but loose 27-17.
2005 Steelers, Superbowl 40, 10 Years later we finally win the championship again, 26 years after the Superbowl 14 championship. The fact we won Superbowl 40 was amazing since we were not the best team that year. Just the team that WON! If the 2005 Steelers would play the 1995 Steelers, the 1995 Steelers would KILL the 2005 Superbowl 40 champion Steelers.
Three years after Superbowl 40, The 2008 Steelers will be lucky to make the playoffs.
2008 Penquins- Stanley Cup 2008, 16 years to get back to the championship.....
Will the Penquins team make a serious run next year?
History does not favor Pittsburgh Teams.
Now the nightmare of losing a championship.
Anytime you find something on the Steelers five time Superbowl Champs, there is always an asterisk saying we went to Superbowl 30 and lost.
* Steelers made it to the Superbowl XXX in 1995 but lost to the World Champion Dallas Cowboys
I still have not gotten over Superbowl 30 and I will not get over the 2008 Stanley Cup loss.
Like the Superbowl 30 Steelers (who I feel was the BEST out of all six Steeler Superbowl Teams), this Penquin team will disappear into history.
Forever losers in the 2008 championship.
All they will be is an asterisk in the Penquins history.
* Penquins made it to the Stanley Cup Finals but lost to the World Champion Detroit Red Wings in 2008
The Penquins will be remembered as roadkill for the 2008 Detroit Redwings Championship express.
Unless they figure out how to win the championship.
I would think the Penquins have a good chance to make a serious run. The Steelers have a lot slimmer chance to make the playoffs (forget the Superbowl).
I do not even want to discuss the Pirates.
If the Buffalo Bills would have won the four Superbowls in a row (1989-1993) they played in, they would have been the greatest team of all time (at least the 1990s).
But because they lost four superbowls in a row, they are forever doomed to be jokes associated with LOSERS.
REMEMBER, NO ONE remembers the LOSER!

Wow Don, I figured Philly would have all the sour grapes tonight.
I don't disagree with what you're saying.
Detroit was/is just a better team. We came from behind for the 2 wins and struggled to stay in the 4 games we lost. It's not like they stole the series from us or anything.
Good luck next year.
Oh and THANK YOU NIEL O'DONNEL (what? 3 INTs)???
I'm still not over SB XXX either. :o

The Pens gave us an awesome year. For such a young team, they did great against Detroit (hell, they lost the final game by 1 point).
Looking forward to next year! Wish I didn't have to wait so long.

The Igloo looked like it was rocking from the start! Great job by the Pens to fight till the last second. Sometimes the better team wins, and I think Detroit was the better team from the start of the series to the end. The Pens had plenty of chances even in game one and two, but it wasnt to be. Detroit did what they do best in pressure you to death, and use their puck poession as great defense. The thing that ended up hurting the Pens was their inability to clear the puck out of their zone in critcal situations.
Great job by Hossa, Crosby and Gonchar to literally carry this team in the finals points wise. I thought Fleury had an ok series, with alot of the soft goals being made up for in that three OT game where he basically stood on his head. Only real disappointment was Malkin and Sykora, but you never know what injuries guys have or whats going on till the season is over.
Lets Go Pens!

Malkin finally had a good game in Game 6.... Its a shame that Fluery played so well in Game 5 and then completely fell apart in Game 6... 3 weak goals, with the first one being the only one that i even have some understanding as to why it went in....
I think the difference was the defenseman for the RedWings... I think the pens just as good, if not a better team, in every aspect except for the defense.... Our defenseman are always going backwards, ALWAYS!!!! It absolutely drives me nuts! Their defenseman are always jumping up in the play and always keeping pucks in the zone. That along with the fact that they are able to move the puck out of their own zone with crisp passing. Those two LITTLE things were the difference in the series...

actually, the pens are sitting a bit higher than the flyers. Remember, the pens actually made it to the final, not philly. Pens are 2nd in the Eastern Conference, Philly is 6th. So, once again, they are not sitting next to the pens

For the record, my statement was not to bash the Pens but show how horrible history remembers the second place team. I was really excited they made it. Sometimes making it is not enough. There were times they looked like boys playing men and other times they were brilliant. Game 5 was the best Hockey game I had ever seen.
They lost it and they have to live with it... and so do we.
Just another bad memory
For the record, I would rather be DEAD then wear Red Wing RED.
Those uniforms were almost as ugly as the Flyers "Road Crew Issue" uniforms.

It's funny how you post in this thread against the pens not because you are a detroit fan, but because you are a sore loser like the rest of the philadelphia fan-base.
IIRC, the Flyers haven't won a stanley cup since 1975. and last time they were in a stanley cup final, which was 1997, they also lost to the Detroit Red Wings. Not only did they lose, they were swept!
So before you come in here telling everyone how the fact that Pittsburgh lost made your day (probably actually made your year since you're a philly fan), realize that they always were and always will be better than philadelphia.

I've been talking smack just for the sake of talking smack because of the fanbois in the thread. Seems in this case, another victim falls to my lulz!
If you look at other threads, when im not talking smack just to talk smack, I said that i didn't expect the flyers to beat pittsburgh this year (much less play for the cup). Once they made it through washington I was happy. beating montreal was icing on the cake.
Whats funny is that your vehement reply implies a severe case of butthurt.

I'm a Flyers fan, yes, but im a fan, not a fanATIC. I don't think that because they make the playoffs suddenly they are t3h b3$73$7 e\/ar, nor do I bring kneepads just in case I get the opportunity to be close to a player. Fan, yes, fanatic, no. There's a difference.
Anyway, the flyers have made more playoff appearances, more stanley cup appearances, and have finished seasons higher than pittsburgh in the standings more often than not, but yeah, the pens were better
as for the future, time will tell...

it was a great season. i wish we could have had the first two games back, but what can you do. i dont wanna blame the refs for anything cause the pens had more than enough chances, but man they were letting detroit get away with murder.
were young and now have experience. lets see what the managers can do to keep the team together and get ready for more great seasons down the road!
