Looking for different avenues on swapping in a 5-speed into my Mark VIII. Noticed the '05+ GT trannys have an extended shifter that looks like it would benefit my swap. I have also read that even though both trannys are T3650s the '05+ 3v engines that are 4.6l have a different bolt pattern than the earlier pre-'05 4.6l blocks as far as the trannys bolting up. Is this true? Seems strange that FORD would redesign the block itself in how the same tranny bolts to the same shortblock. Looking at pictures of the two, they look the same. Could a simple tailshaft or bellhousing swap be in order to achieve the extended shifter? Also have heard conflicting info. on whether the trannys are hydraulic or cable clutches. The -'01 looks cable and +'05 looks hydraulic. The perfect scenerio would be an early '01 T3650(supposedly switched them to hydraulic late '01), cable clutch, mech. speedo (VSS) with the '05 tailshaft/shifter. One can dream I guess. Thanks for any insight.
