    Weight reduction / wiring cleanup

What started out as a simple tach install sort of grew into something bigger. I was going to wait till this winter to pull the dash and get rid of all the HVAC equipment, and eliminate a ton of no longer used wires. But as I started pulling stuff off the do the tach, I got carried away and kept going till I had this:

A few hours later I had a big pile of junk parts, and a fair sized pile of excess wires:

I don't know how these things happen, they just do. That's probably 50 pounds or so of excess weight that is gone forever.

Oh yeah, I did manage to get the new tach in too:

I Plan on tearing the dash out of mine come this winter so I can route the main harness behind it and clean up the engine bay. I plan to weld up all the holes and repaint under the hood also.

Since it's for the light, ideally it would be spliced in with the dash lights. But I had an oil pressure/water temp/voltmeter aftermarket gauge cluster below where the tach is so I spliced into the light for that.

One benefit of removing all the unused wires under the dash was that I now have two switched and two always hot wires from the fuse panel that are not in use and are therefore available for future needs. I marked which fuse controls each of them, capped them, and tucked them up underneath the dash.

I used a fuse tap into the 5 amp dash light fuse on my car. The tach light dims with the other lights now too. If you tap the right side of the fuse (the side not hot with fuse out.) it should protect the lighting circut to the tach also.
