    locking vs. non locking conveter

I currently have a non locking. I was told that a locking is better and I will get more power to the ground. Im think of getting a new converter. I have a manual valve body so I would have to wire up a switch to lock the converter. I was looking at edge street conveters 3000 stall speed ( since my boost starts right around 3k)

Does anybody have any info for me or any ideas. Im sure in a few years I will switch it to a manual I just dont have cash now and I want to make my car faster lol.

What trans, a 4r70w? What's the rest of the combination? What manual valvebody are you running? What do you want to acheive with the car?

A lockup converter will really help highway cruising. You can get a three disk lockup unit for high hp combos but, they're heavy & limited to 6500-7000 from what I've read. You can run a higher stall unit & use the lockup o/d to make the setup streetable. I suggest you talk to Alan at dirtydog performance near Cincinnati. Alan's knowledgable & will give you good advice. http://www.dirtydogperformance.com/

You can also post over a question on click-click racing.

Dude ive been all through this. Your car is mostly a street car correct? If yes then you need a lockup converter.

DO NOT BUY AN EDGE CONVERTER!!!!!!!!!

I have one and have had it there 3 times to get it fixed right. I finnaly said screw them and sent the converter to Lenny at Ultimate Converter Concepts. Its on its way back to Pittsburgh as im writing this. He has assured me that the converter will be close to where it needs to be. Want to see the results? Be at PRP on Sunday. Will be the debut of the new combo.

I know you live right by me and if youd like to talk to me in person about this issue feel free to. Ill be more than hapy to go over things with you and discuss my nightmare that was dealing with Edge converters.

brain just go with a 5 speed and get it over with...you can get a used t-5 and bellhousing for the same amount of money a new convertor would be.

then go to a junkyard or find someone parting out an sn-95 and find the pedal assembly, clutch cable, clutch fork, etc. you can also buy a used flywheel since flywheels can be continually resurfaced.

Your AODE is completely raping your power and weighs much more.

i dont doubt it, its just that i wasn't talking about yours, i was talking about his.

your car is already set up well with the AODE, he is still trying to get his setup the way he wants it.

also, he has been talking of a 5 speed swap for a while now (http://www.steelcitystangs.com/forum...ead.php?t=9276)

and looking at the prices, he could do a 5 speed swap for a bit more than his new convertor would cost

    Its cool.

I mean if its mainly a street car then i would agree a stick is the way to go. I love my 00' GT on the stret.

Im just tryin to figure out why he has a non-lockup converter in there and a manual valve body.

Mine was junk. Was supposed to be a 3600 stall and stalled at 5500.

Sooner or later it will be a stick. Remember my car a procharged 6. It starts boostin around 3k. I'm prob around 270 to 300 to the wheels. I didn't know it was non locking when I bought it. I think its junk and didn't help me. So just for the rest of the summer and next year I figured I would get a nice converter to get sum more power to the ground.

What if I put my stock converter back in? Would I feel a better pull?

I think I'm going to go with a precision industries converter. What kind do you think would be good for my set up. How much do they go for. I can't find prices on the web site.

Never put it on rollers. My best 1/4 mile MPH is 109. It's a bolt on 5.0 with a 125 shot. Mine was ordered as a 3000 RPM stall and it stalls at 3000 when I'm spraying, but only makes it to ~2700 or so when I nail it n/a.

A good PI is going to run you around 900 bucks. Call them and go over your combo and they will recommend you a stall.

I dunno...like I said, my Edge has been absolutely great to me, and the general consensus on Stangnet/Corral ect. when I was looking to purchase was very, very positive to Edge Racing. I think maybe yours was the exception, and not the rule?
