    2009 Gt500

When the new GT500's were released, it was supposed to only be a 2 year run of around 7500 or so units per year. Is Ford sticking to this or are they going to remain producing the car? I saw somehwere where there were spy photos of the 2010 GT500... just didn't know if there was any truth to this or not? As an enthusiast I am glad that they are thinking about continuing something with better performance than just the GT, but I hate how companies promise limited runs of something and then back out on it. It seems like this is happening more and more... I wanna say this started back in the late 80's when Chevy clipped the Monte Carlo SS and it was to be the next big thing... then all of a sudden, a few years later its brought back and the 80's models hit the floor and are dirt cheap! Trust me, I understand the business side of things... it all comes down to the all mighty dollar, but why don't they just come out and initially say that a model could be re-released or that if the model is a success it will stay in production. I guess the bottom line is... I hate being scammed or lied to.

And that is why I never walk onto a dealer lot without researching everything about the car myself and coming to my own conclusions. From what I understand the 2010 GT500 is going to be a more complete car - meaning some better handling in addition to some extra grunt. Most importantly, its finally getting its own set of mirrors like the 03/04 cobras did lol, at least I think I'm remembering that right

So there is going to be a 2010 GT500??? I might be backing out of the verbal deal I made on one next year when it is no longer a "demonstrator"...

Yes, and this is coming from somebody high up in ford. I'm not entirely sure about it using the GT500 name, but I'm betting it will. Want me to ask for you?

Yeah, I'd appreciate any insight you can give me. Like I said, I have the opportunity to buy an 07 GT500 Triple Black Convertable next summer that is a demonstrator that will have less than 1000 miles on it for a very good price. However, if I bought the car, I would probably be buying it to keep it forever and if they aren't going to stop production I don't know if I want to lose my ass again on a new car!!!

For the record, back in 2005, Hau Thai Tang said they would make enough so that everyone who wants one would have a chance to get one. That's a statement that most speculators conveniently forgot about when they decided to buy an "instant classic".

Yes, I bought one in 2006, but not for any pie-in-the-sky hopes of owning a car I could sell later for boat loads of cash. I never fell for that rhetoric. I always was a fan of Mustangs, but always needed to own a truck for work. I was finally in a position to get myself a toy, and decided to get it for my 40th birthday. That's why I bought when I bought and paid what I paid to get it then.

No offense to any of the SN95 guys, but that body style never really grabbed me. The S197 body style did. They say that's what makes the world go 'round.

Is my car heavy (or a pig, as I've seen mentioned here a few times)? Yes, but I've made up for it. A few bolt-ons and I have 50% more HP than stock and an upgraded suspension. That should make up for the 400 extra lbs.

Also, Carroll Shelby has signed a partnership deal with Ford for the next 6 (I think it was 6) years. That tells me that the Shelby name will be on the deck lid of Mustangs for a while. The question is: Will it be in the form of a GT500, or will it be a GT350 with the new 5.0L?

Oh, and yes there will be a 2010 GT500.

I agree that in today's market you shouldn't count on buying a new car and it retaining it's value to be a future collectors item. I just get upset that when something is released and the company states it is going to do one thing and then turn around and do something different... to me that is false advertisement which is illegal!

I agree with your statement about false advertising. I still point to what HTT said in 2005. Maybe him letting the cat out of the bag lead to his "promotion" to Brazil.

edit: orf, why is CS's signature upside down on your dash?

I got my car in late September of 2006. Had been gathering as much info as I could on them since the debut at the 2006 NAIAS. I had a bunch of bolt ons ordered well before the car arrived.

One of those was that center IP panel, which I had sent away to the Shelby Children's Foundation for a signature. I got it back about a month before the car arrived. I had it installed during the PDI at the dealership. The master tech came over to me after installing it and said, "You're not gonna like this." It was, as you can see, upside down.

I wasn't mad, but wasn't thrilled, either. I called the Foundation and explained my situation. They apologized and told me that Mr. Shelby singed the first 3 or 4 the wrong way, and they were shipped out before the error was caught. They offered to have the original IP signed the right way - which I accepted. It sits on a shelf in my office.

The upside down one grew on me, so I never swapped it out. It matches my sense of humor. It's usually the first thing commented on when someone new sees my car. My stock reply is, "My top was down, so he just laid acrossed the windshield to sign it." Some people think I'm serious.

In a way its kinda cool because you know you got one of the first that he signed. Stuff like that drives me crazy though.

Good to see you have a sense of humor about it :)

The GT500 will continue at least until MY11. After that, it might stay, it might not. If he's alive there is a chance it will continue, if he's not, they will likely move to a different name.
Interesting.... I didn't think that they'd keep the GT500 name going, just because I thought it was going to be a one hit wonder, then they'd go back to the cobra moniker.

FWIW, Coletti was a really big advocate for bringing back the Shelby name to the mustang. It was one of his goals (that he completed) before he left.

Orf- cool story about the signature. If you send an item to to his foundation, will he still sign something? My dad has one of the first GT500 coupes and I'd love to get a piece signed for him for his birthday or something.

You say you added some mods to your car, what all did you do? Have any pics? Sorry if you posted this before and I just didn't see it... The alloy color is my favorite on the Shelby's. I wish the car I have the chance at getting was alloy instead of black...

He will sign stuff for a donation to the Foundation. Here's a link: Foundation

It isn't cheap, but it does all go to the charity.

I did post some pictures about 6 weeks ago, but I'll add some clickable thumbnails here.

I haven't listed everything in one place, because it was done a little at a time over the last two years. I'll make an attempt here:

Cosmetic - black turn signal housings with clear lenses, custom GrabberPony shift knob, billet drink cup bezel, 9mm bullet lock knobs, black floor mats with emboidered cobras in silver, lighted "Ford Racing" sill plates

Functional - Tri-ax short throw shifter, engine start button, CDC under trunk lid storage compartment, Corsa axle backs, Polished billet fuel rails, BFG KDW2s

Performance - High Capacity heat exchanger, TVS blower - stage 3 - tuned by Evolution Performance (stage 3 comprises of the 2.3L TVS, FRPP CAI, huge monoblade throttle body, 2.65" blower pulley, Diablo MAFia, and NGK TR6 plugs), '08 crank damper (10 lbs lighter), FRPP Handling Pack (comprises of adjustable dampers, lowering springs, front and rear sway bars, urethane bushings, and beefier tower strut), BMR LCAs, Steeda UCA, one-piece 3.5" aluminum driveshaft, BMR driveshaft loop, BMR adjustable panhard rod (may get replaced with a watts link), 3.73 gears.

I think that's it, but I may have forgotten something.

I'm looking to get a good quality, custom built, bolt-in 4 point or 6 point roll cage - powdercoated - so that BeaveRun will let me get on the track.

Oh, here's a scan of my dyno run:
