    install

    I'm coming home from maryland this weekend and we begin to start project i have on my hands. Im going to be install a trac-loc dif with the carbon clutches, 31spline axles, an aluminum driveshaft, and a GT supercar fuel pump.

    i have all of the parts and tools for the fuel pump install.

    my question is did i forget anything for the dif install

    gear oil, rear end girdle, wheel studs, friction modifier, new driveshaft, driveshaft loop, axles, dif.

    should i get new exciter rings(i think thats what there called) from the getgo or can these be salvaged?

    any suggestions on other things to do or something i forgot please remind me now before i have the call all apart and i realize im an idiot.

    You can salvage them if your careful. Sounds like you have what ya need for the rear. Good Luck.

    Did the new diff come with a cross pin and cross pin retaining bolt? retaining bolts are sometimes broken, cross pins get a bit beat up depending on milage / abuse.

    I didnt see and mention of carrier bearings and set-up shims? Or are you going to press your old bearings off to install the new diff? Either way you likely need shims and marking coumpound to set back lash. There are basic install kits that have the shims, compountd and a few otrher bits just ofr this purpose.

    What about ring gear bolts? gonna re-use?

    I ddint see loctite on the list, will need that for ring gear bolts, and drive shaft bolts at least.

    The exciter rings can be pressed off and pressed back on.

    I see wheel studs. Are they stock length or long ones? If long, do you have open end nuts?

    Random thoughts.

    i have loctite. i got moroso 3in wheel studs so i think im gonna need open ended lug nuts. the guy that i talked to wasnt sure weather the nuts i have would cover the distance or not.

    does anyone know how long the stock wheel studs are on mustangs?

    I was thinking about gettin one of those install kits, but wasnt sure if i'd need it. Do you think I need new carrier bearings and such with 50,xxx miles on my car?

    If the cross pin and bolt are bad ill just run and get them from woltz and wind(local dealership). same goes with excited rings.
