Hey guys, this is something I ran into a couple days ago so I figured I'd pass it along.
I have a tubular GT40 intake on my car. I've been wanting the cover for it for a long time. Last week I bit the bullet and bought one. For you guys who know what I'm talking about, you know they're not cheap.
It arrived quickly and I was happy.
A couple days later I went to install it and here's what I found. The mounting holes don't line up.
It didn't fit!!
I was kinda confused because I thought all GT40 tubulars were the same. Apparently not.
This is a picture of mine. Note the 4 mounting tabs.
Here's a picture of another GT40 tubular. Note the 2 mounting tabs and 2 holes drilled right into the plenum.
It seems there are two different mounting methods. Here are identical looking covers, but if you look closely you'll see the difference. The 1st and 3rd and 2nd and 4th pics are the same covers.
I got lucky and found someone who needed the one I had and I needed the one they had. We ended up doing a straight up trade.
After a lot of investigation and searching, I tried to narrow this down to part #'s to make it easy to know which is which. What I found was two covers with identical part #'s can still have different mounting hole locations. The two covers pictured have the same part #'s. I also found covers with different part #'s that can have either mounting hole location. Narrowing it down to part #'s was impossible.
