    running lean???

i took the heads off a nearly stock 91 mustang with 95,000 miles and all the exhaust valves are white as a ghost. the car seemed to run ok until you got past 4000 rpm and than it seemed to quit making power. some of the plugs were pretty white also. i know its a lean condition but wonder what caused it. i just started a h/c/i swap with this car and im just trying to figure out why it was running so lean

should have put a FP gauge on it and see if it lost FP with rpm's, could have been pump or regulator.

Yep check for the proper fuel pressure under load. It would also be a great idea to check the WOT A/F ratio as well and report back or take it to a good dyno shop once you install the h/c/i etc!

A buddies car wouldn't pull past 4grand and the fuel pump was going out. He changed pump and the car runs fine now.
