    Clutch install headache

What a pain. Got everything apart and nothing back together. Pulled both headers. Didn't need to but I need to make some more clearance on driver side around steering shaft. Flywheel friction surface was FUBAR. Major heat spots about 180* apart, pressure plate looked to have a large heat spot but over all looked to have gotten hot. Got friction surface off flywheel and it was warped all different ways once unbolted. Looks like rear main seal was bad and slung oil which may have gotten onto flywheel/pressure plate surfaces. Found the original seal to be in two pieces. The biggest heat spot on flywheel smelled of burnt grease and can see it in pics. Clutch disc actually looked fairly good for 3 season of racing and high rpm launches. Had plenty of wear left but it also looked like it got contaminated by oil. Explains a drop in mph since beginning of year. Installing new friction surface is enough to drive one nuts. Nothing hard but tightening all the screws and going around and around torquing them down sucked. Throwout bearing had odd looking marks on face that touches fingers. Pressure plate fingers where throwout bearing touched were worn flat. Odd since throw out bearing spun smoothly and easily. On a good note the input shaft is straight and not showing any twisting.

Then there is the mfn pilot bearing. I have that thing so butchered now it's almost funny. The damn rental tool I had to remove it was so messed up it wouldn't even hold and pull. So out came the drill, some chisels and lots of swearing

Pilot bearing replaced, new clutch in, clearanced headers so they don't rub steering shaft and 3rd gear is FUBAR It goes in but not without letting you hear it. Seems faster I go the less niose it makes. Good ol crunch/grind. I like the feel of the Spec 2+.

Guess its time to hunt down another 3650.

Picking up replacement 3650 saterday. Since it s gonna be a beautiful rainy weekend. I should get this swapped out and ready to rock for next good raceday.

I will tear down my broken 3650 and see what I destroyed and rebuild it from there with better parts and other special little touches. Gotta have a backup.
