There are many definitions of a "tragedy"....I don't consider a famous person dying of a drug overdose and found with the needle in his arm a tragedy. I'm tired of hearing about the latest "star" Philip Hoffman being called a tragedy. Maybe it sounds cold and harsh but that's how I feel. Soliders dying, school shootings, any life cut short due to unforeseen circumstances out of their control, and many other similar disasters.....that's a tragedy.

I'm with you on that one Dan. I don't typically pay much attention to the news and what not, but I agree. He has experienced drug addictions in the past, gotten help and then relapsed... time and time again. I think that any deaths of a famous person is severely overplayed to be honest. Soldiers dying in combat, school shootings, tsunami's, tornado's.. those are indeed tragedies. I mean I know i've gotten caught up in some stars deaths, most recently Paul Walker's. I was sad to hear that he had passed, because he seemed like a good dude and that was crappy, but again the most recent death of Hoffman is getting ridiculous..

So anyways, how much snow do you guys think we're going to get? I'm hoping not to see the 2-4" they have for down here in Washington. I'm tired of the snow and the cold :(

I agree with all of the above. I dont feel it's a tragedy, but I am sad that the people who were entertained by his roles and movies will no longer be able to see new ones, and for that he is selfish.

But the true tragedy lies in the little kids who are sick and die, soldiers who die for this country, uncontrollable circumstances, etc etc etc.

So, here's my rant for the day......

My wife comes downtown and can't find anywhere to park - i tell her that i'll park the car, just go inside and stay warm.... I find a spot on Stanwix St. downtown, but i'm not real sure if its somewhere i'm allowed to park - there's multiple "no parking" "2 hr. parking" and "loading zoen" signs all over this one block stretch of the road.... its about 11:55.... so, i run into Fernando's, the little sandwich shop across the street, and ask if I can park there - they tell me its just fine, go ahead... So i come out of the shop, cross street and go straight to the automated pay station... plug in my info, and press green button to pay... the machine jams... gotta be kidding me... so i hit the button a couple more times, and its frozen... so i walk to the end of the block to see if there's another one (what it says to do on the machine if it doesn't work). Nothing, look around the corner - nothing. So i call the Pittsburgh Parking Authority - they look in their system, and right as i had called, the charge went through... it was 12:02, so i was covered until 1:02. Come out to the car with my wife at 12:50, and there's a prking ticket on my window, with a timestamp of 11:58.... ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? This dude must have snuck up behind me while i was on the phone wiht Pgh Parking Auth or something.... or been waiting in his car, and when I went into the sandwich shop to ask a question, hurried up and ran out.....

And i can't even fight it until its 48 hours hold.... screw this guy...........................

He was the fat slob sitting by the window eating a sandwich in the shop. He waited until you came in ran out, ticketed you, then ran back in.. Realistically, those people are a bunch of jack wagons. I can't stand going downtown for anything, and I get irritated when I have to. I feel your frustration. Everytime I go downtown usually something bad happens. Like someone wrecks into my car. But don't call anyone for a hit and run, because the bicycle police show up and treat you like a criminal and ask you what the big deal is and what the problem is and why I even bothered to call them.. Last time I checked, wrecking into a car and leaving the scene was a hit and run and you're supposed to report it.. Damn downtown ranting has got me going now..

I didn't realize you had to wait 48 hours to appeal that though. That's ridiculous. What a bunch of hacks!

I used to pay my parking tickets at Cal U in pennys. Still cheaper than parking up there. Pittsburgh is a mess when it comes to parking.

I'm not even sure how i missed him..... I would have thought they have to check the electronic meter to see if someone has paid, but it must all link automatically to some sort of hand-held machine that prints the ticket.....

I've heard in other areas of downtown with these electronic meters that they're watching like a hawk.... so it doesnt make sense to me why all the money was spent on installing these, when you're going to have people sitting there watching them.....

I hope he's there again the next time i'm out there.... i think i'm going to talk to him.... see if he think's he's cool in his fake wanna-be police officer uniform....

the 48 hour wait is because they do online hearings now.... and the ticket isnt' in the system yet. not surprising.

Nothing pisses me off more than a rent-a-cop. Pansies.. They think they are so cool and badass.

Yeah I'm not surprised it's in the system. I'm surprised if it will be in there in 48 hours. Anything to try and tie things up to discourage you from wanting to fight it so that you just pay for it. Stanwix street just gives me nightmares :(

You guys must be bored with the easy life, you can't really be that malcontent!? I've lived and worked in other cities and Pittsburgh is easily one of the most livable cities. Sure it has its share of inconveniences, but they are outweighed by its beauty and its down to earth old world charm. It's not a rural utopia with gun toting bible thumpers, free parking, a dollar store, and supermarket. But that stuff is all over rural America, nothing at all special about that. Travel as much as I do and those places flash by the hundreds and leave no special impression. They are in fact so boring and repetitive they make no impression at all!

Pittsburgh is a very cool city.

Cool city...absolutely. Do I like having to be in it for anything other than a Steeler game? Hell no! Would I hate Chicago or New York even more? Yep. For many folks - like me - the PITA factor far outweighs the charm factor.
