I know the work issue ... as I type this response 7,000 miles away from anything resembling racing :(
Who knows, I might give up cars by next year too ...

LOL, while I agree at some level, I also beg to differ.
My car trying to keep it as street / strip eat like that. The compromises break shit and cost money.
I've got a number of friends with full on, drag only cars that go SEASONS without hurting anything, just oil changes and wipe the car down. Every few years refresh the engine and trans, and enjoy. That is what I mean by real race car (and these are high 8 to mid 9 second cars raced most weekends, 5-7 rounds a race day).
I've been DD'ing the T-bird for almost two weeks since I started the new job. For the last 12yrs I've been stuck in whatever car PennDOT provided for me to drive....usually Taurus's and Fusion's. They were good cars but bland. I have to say that I'm loving driving my own car!! The drive is about 16 miles of rolling country roads, no traffic to speak of and generally takes about 25 minutes. I've been really babying the bird to see what kind of mpg it will get and pretty sure I'm seeing 20+...waiting for the next fill up but want more get more miles on this tank before calculating. I have to say that staying out of the throttle for a full tank has been a battle!
Listening to the Flowmasters to start and end the work day is awesome. Especially since it's a car that I built from parts and wanted as a "drive anywhere" cruiser. Now I get to enjoy it daily!!
I prefer my street car that went 10.2s@130s any day of the week over my race car even though my race car is a full one second faster and still in the break in period. I mean grant it, I don't care how fast my street car is per say so I really don't push it or get mad or have to change anything on it so its done and just enjoy it. Maybe its because I am still working the bugs out of the other car and working on tune and still haven't even sprayed the 2nd stage but it just seems everytime I go to track something either needs upgraded or it can be .1 faster with this part. I knew this going into it which I have bought the best of the best of everything but it still costs and race gas isn't getting cheaper lol. And it seems like its never done. of course it is a lot different down here when you line up next to 4 sec x275 cars everytime you go to the track. My car is a very very max effort lil 346 which most everything down here is heads up run what you brung so even though its fast for what it is, its still slow. I built my car for one reason and one reason only and once I get to that point and clip that mark I may enjoy it more since I wont have to be changing anything. Just leave it in trailer.
This is atleast my experience of it. I am sure if I had a 408 with a turbo that doesn't need to be max effort and run on pump gas and so forth I would enjoy it more but my car I just cant do that.
of course this is the street cars that I have to deal with
that is miguels camaro
and this is jeremiahs car since he went powerglide. He was a 6speed car and went 9.60s and switched to a powerglide and has been 8.1s
Good god that's sweet. Best color too!!

Changed the oil for the first time in the '14 today. Nothing like a $100 DIY oil change.

Yes it's 8 quarts. I was out at the dealers a couple weeks ago and they had a special. I paid $45 for an oil change with amsoil I figured for that price why do it myself.

Yep - 8.5 quarts. Nobody around here carries 5w50 full synthetic except in Castrol, which has a zinc additive that, while great for older cars with hydraulic flat tappet cams, is not meant for newer motors like the 5.0. So I ended up going to the local dealer and buying 9 quarts of Motorcraft for $9+ a quart. The guy at the counter must have felt bad for me, as he tossed an oil filter in the box for free.
