Oh and the rental thing depends on who his insurance company is I would imagine. The papers you got when you got the rental should have a date of when its due back. When I killed a deer last month, my insurance (erie) paid for my rental for like 3 weeks I think.

Have you looked at the ad for the '90 LX that John ( somethingclever ) is selling?

It is a great CLEEEEEAN car with nice subtle mods.

I bought it from silverworm and drove it for over a year - LOVED IT! - then sold it to John and got a truck ( '94 XLT ) in trade.

Check out his ad in the classifieds - if you drive it you will want it. It is THAT nice! And I doubt you will find a new edge that is anywhere close to as clean as this LX.

    http://www.steelcitystangs.com/forum...t=20584&page=4

    price just lowered...CALL HIM!!

I doubt they'd give you a hard time buying the car back. If you buy it back you're saving them the time/effort/money of having to junk it. My SHO was a '95 - with only 90k miles - really nice shape - and it cost me a whopping $200 to buy back. And the process isn't too difficult. Keep us posted!!

So I got a call that its totaled. No numbers were discussed. I'm worried they are only going to give me 1200 for it. Can I tell them not to total it then, or can I fight to get that number bumped up. I didn't do anything major so I don't have any receipts.

Unbelievable. Guy hits me, I'm screwed.

Not unless you know the insurance guy. Otherwise its more then likely not worth fixing to them. My truck probably would have been totaled but was able to get them to haggle a bit with non oem parts. And no, you can't get your number bumped up, they'll give you what its worth. I'd think you'll get at least 2500, but it depends on a good bit.

I bought my 90 gt back with 50xxx miles after a mild fire for 400-500 bucks if I remember right. It was totaled as well. They gave me 5500 plus me being able to sell the car for over 3k I was sitting pretty good. You'll be alright.

Don't sweat it yet. Wait until they tell you what they'll give you for it. Even that figure can be argued. With my SHO, I disputed several things - my clutch was new - the car was in excellent shape - the 50/50 ( cloth / leather ) interior was considered less valuable than leather by the insurance company, when in fact on the SHO's the 50/50 interior lasts longer and is more comfortable/desirable in the real world - I had a premium stereo that the adjuster missed - and so on... So I was able to argue my settlement amount higher. It took several phone calls, but the $500-600 in my pocket was worth the effort. I had a child seat strapped in the back seat ( thankfully it was empty at the time of the crash ), but I told them they would also be paying for a new car seat and that I would send them the bill.

You will be surprised how little it will cost you to buy back the car. But don't talk about that until after you're done working on the settlement amount. The insurance company will be able to deduct the buy-back amount from your settlement.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Well, I have to call "Total Loss" tomorrow. So I can negotiate the price to the car? I called my dad and he is trying to talk me out of buying it back due to all the hassle of getting it back to the house, getting the R title and dealing with all the paper work etc. So I don't know. He also said that they will most likely give me 1500 for it, not official but I guess he Blue Booked it at work. Which is unbelievable. Ive know people with K cars get double that. I want 3-5K for it, its a great car only the bumper. I need to find out the extent of the damage. Can I just tell them not to total it, worst case scenario?

    Thanks for the help guys!

I got rear ended at a red light in Canonsburg a couple weeks ago. No damage to the CRV, but a hassle for me.

I hate auto insurance! It's the biggest scam going. They make you pay all this $$$ for years and then when your in an accident they bend you over and they don't even use vasoline. If I didn't have to have it I wouldn't.

I agree, its a major scam. Seriously whats 3-4 grand to a car insurace company?

Although it doesnt matter, I am done with Nation Wide. The only side they are on is the one taking my money and doing nothing. Not on my side at all. I left my ajuster, voicemail after voicemail a few weeks ago.

I figure the dumbass that got me has State Farm and they have called and kept me more informed then my insurace.

    Car insurace=scam.

Well, they gave me a decent price for it. Looks like I am going shopping for a New Edge this week for around 5k.

Wish me luck and let me know if you see one! Looking for Black, silver or Red GT manual and leather seats but that would be a bonus.

    Hope I can find something.

Just out of curiosity, and by all means don't answer if you don't want to, but what did they end up giving you for it? I'll keep my eye out for new edges.
