THIS ^^^^^ No car payment > faster car with less money to make said payments.

My monthy payment is only 100 but I double and sometimes triple it to get it paid off sooner. When they totaled my 95 I put all of it towards the 03.

Why did I take out a 36 month loan? HAH

Yea i know what ya mean and its your money and do with it as u please. But if i had to do t again i would of done it differently, left car alone ans use money mpre wisely. I still should do that but with my income and secondary "play" fund is only reason i still even play around with vehicles.

I also agree.... If I were to do it all again. I would have bought a car that was already really modified, and just drove it. I have blown so much money and time, it is unbelievable. AND my car has probably been able to be driven for only one summer. The rest of the time its down and ripped apart waiting for something to be done or modified....all that money to drive it like 1500 miles in three years... /rant.

I put somewhere in the ball park of 1000 miles on it last year. Didn't really get to enjoy it. I just didn't have the time other than the occasional car show.

+1 The whole reason I bought a Mustang was because I wanted something cool to drive in the summer. I was looking for something cheap, but everything I drove was garbage so I decided to up my price range and low and behold I found the one I have now. It had 39,000 miles on it, 2 owners (stayed in the family actually), and was garage kept. The car is from the carolina's, so it never saw snow. I got this for a killer deal. It was 100% stock when I bought it, and I've put minimal mods here and there into it, just fun stuff like a TB/Plenum, CAI and Exhaust. I'll throw on some long-tubes and a new clutch, and maybe a cam some day, but it'll never see boost. Its fun to have to just goof around, but its still fast enough that I know the local rice-burner who toys with me will get spanked :) Unless you really plan on running that car at the track, then save your money man! I take my car out on sunny days and just go for a drive, or take my girlfriend out in it or my cousin and I both get our cars out and get ice-cream here and there. Its just something fun to have.

If I ever get the itch to run a car at the track, I'll buy a roller, and build one from there.. Much easier to do when everything is out and you can build it up I think :)

I hear ya. I just have high exceptions and goal. For example I want to make it into a magazine (even just a picture). I figure do stuff like this now before I have kids, married, house etc.

I think maybe for this year piece together a cobra number off eBay, used 00R hood and cams/tune over the next 4 or 5 months.

Well heres the issue you need to plan accordingly, because if you buy cams and then buy a blower, they might not be the correct cams for the blower. So try and save yourself money so you only have to buy once. I spend about 1,200/yr on my stang buying new stuff.. I'm already going over that budget this year because I spent more than that on just the wheels/tires alone. I wanted to throw some Kooks long tube headers on, but I don't feel like paying a grand. I wish I could find someone selling a good condition used one for cheap, but I rarely ever fall into good deals.. I spent about 1500 total last year on my exhaust (Magnaflow x/performance race exhaust), plenum, smoked heads/tails, and a few other goodies..

I know what you mean though thats why I bought mine.. I'm not married yet, I figured to buy my toy now before I become one of the many people who never get to have one. And you could make it into a magazine for other reasons besides performance :) It's all about the story dude :)

Yeah, alot of people take pride in "building" their car but I agree. Next one for me is going to have all the money and time/effort already done. Not that i've had anything over the top, but surely had enough money invested.

Next one will be boosted and done right, turn key and go.

I've been on both sides of the fence, and I can tell you, its better on this side imho! lol... I did (well, i paid for) all of the work to my twin turbo T/A, and it was probably the biggest mistake i ever made.... i love playing with cars, but it was more headaches than i ever imagined it would be, and it cost me an arm and a leg....

Instead, i've bought both of my Corvettes already modified, and i couldn't be happier.. i make sure that they've been done by well-known professional shops (don't want to inherit some guy's garage project), and i never look back...

i put 6K miles on the Vette last year ... it doesnt sound like much, but i drive the thing constantly! just never took any long road trips last year...

Yeah I think you have the best idea of the difference between the two... I am in the same boat, I think I'd much rather buy something turn-key than to deal with adding onto something and having to worry about all the specifics and the added $ with it. This is the main reason I have just been driving my car. It looks sounds and runs as good as I want it for now, and I have no hesitation in jumping in and taking it on a road trip (drove it back from Texas when I bought it, took it to Woodward Dream Cruise last year and then Washington D.C. this past year).

Barry I think you are on the right path just keep it clean drive it and enjoy it. You don't need a power monster to autocross, just hone your skills with what you have.
