toying with getting a smaller bike that is going to be easy on the wallet. Don't want to do the gs again. Been there, done that. I've also done the squid ZOMG U HAEV TEH NINJA 900 U R TEH FASTEST EVAR!!1!one!1!111 I'm looking for something that is good on gas, good on insurance, responsive and fun. So I started looking at what is considered "entry level" since today's "entry level" is going to rock the gs500 I had before and that bike was fun. This has led me to the latest offerings from Honda and Yamaha. The yzf-r3 or the new CBR300R. I suspect that on paper the r3 is has the slight edge on the fun front as it seems to have borrowed more from its bigger siblings than Honda's offering, but I like the simplicity of the single cylinder of the CBR300R from a maintenance standpoint.

I like the bike but i cant get it new. Absolute upper bound is 5.5k CAD new. If I don't get it I don't get it. Just something I was kicking around as the sub 500cc battles seem to be heating up.

Get a DRZ400SM... pipe, jet kit, 3x3 airbox mod, don't look back. Most fun you can have on the street, 50+mpg. My buddy had a bone-stock one and it was fun as hell, can't imagine with a few more ponies. His topped out about 96mph in top gear with stock gearing. I swear to God, you could hold it wide open and do 96mph any where any corner. I had two toys when he sold it or I would have (I should have anyway) bought it. It's hard to find them with the mods done AND low mileage AND decent shape.

The thing is, I've been bitten too many times on the bike front of inheriting someone else's problems. I really wanted to try something new in both senses of the word. I suppose I could look around but my luck in used bikes has been close to zero.

How far is your commute to work? Looks like you'll have to get a bicycle and order some aftermarket LUNGS from Brothers Performance. :)

LOL... about 30 kay to work... in my youth before many bad habits that would have been a 30-40 minute commute on my Cannondale.

60KPH ? That's pushing it. You must've really piled on with those habits. hahaha My wife and I took a ride to Cooper's Rock last weekend. They got some decent mountain bike trails down there. I was there once ABOUT 18 YEARS AGO>>> OMFG. It was hard then. I'd rather rinse my mouth out with a revolver than try to ride a mountain bike again LOL!

LOL i hear you... mountain biking wasn't my thing.

"back in the day" I was pretty hardcore. I was a dual sport athlete (road cycling and speed skating). I weighed 180 with 4% body fat. Usually 3-4 times in the summer I would ride from philly down the shore and back for the weekend. Then life happened lol. I still wonder every now and then "what could have been" if I had chosen to go down the path most athletes did in the mid 80's-early 90's (PEDs).

seriously though the roiding through the 80's into the 90's was insane. In fact it still is the only reason fewer get caught is because they trade less powerful steroids for ones that are harder to detect (e.g. Marion Jones and "the clear").
