Schools are gutless these days. Make the kid pay for the yearbook changes - suspend him - but don't give him a permanent record for a stupid prank that had no sexual intent. Taxpayer dollars at work...

if anybody doubted this picture at all... see below. The whole axle is supposed to be the diameter of the center section. This is some Bob Myers carnage, but it took me about 450 hours of mowing at 6MPH... not two weekends and a total of 5 miles.

(Before I put the wheel back on), I packed the hole with lube. When I stuffed the spindle (through the wheel), most of the lube came out the hole in front, so I put that lube on my finger and rubbed it on the shaft (of the steering column). Are we not phrasing anymore ???

I had one like that before on a pull behind mower. However the shaft was welded to a structure that wasn't replaceable...I would have had to cut off the old one and buy a piece of 1045 and weld it in....perfectly straight and parallel to the other wheel....seemed like all kind of failure points for me..LOL

Instead my backyard engineering degree came through and i found some bronze bushings at the local hardware store...drilled out the wheel hub to the right OD and tapped bushing into place, cleaned up the shaft by removing the sharp edge on it, added a liberal amount of grease and rolled with it.

Still sucked but alot better and once per year I would need to replace that bushing....but it got me buy until I bought a zero turn....which cut my mowing down from 3 hrs to 1hr 20 min.

The website I ordered the spindle from was a John Deere aftermarket outfit from Indiana. GreeneTractorParts ? or something. anyway, when I clicked on L-series parts on their website, there was a warning in RED... said IF YOU OWN AN L-SERIES MOWER AND YOU STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL BUSHINGS IN THE FRONT WHEELS, THEY MAY SEIZE AND DESTROY YOUR SPINDLE. YOU SHOULD REPLACE THE BUSHINGS WITH THESE NEW BALL BEARING UNITS.

Well, no sh1t... I don't randomly peruse aftermarket lawn mower websites. LOL.

I've been thinking about this, but I have a small bank where I will always need to use a push mower. If I could totally eliminate the push mower area and use the Zero, I'd buy one. I will stick with traditional for 1/2 price. :)

Actually it did....current machine uses 2.5 gal for 3 acres...old setup was quad+pull behind and combined was a little higher.

I like the versatility that attachments bring...but I don't like the cost of them nor will it compete with just cutting grass unless the yard is steep.

I heard this morning they're letting it all drop. How about that, common sense won out.

I think the kid is an idiot for doing it, but that's the prime age for being an idiot.

No help on an airstrip Bill, but is this a LSR set-up or similar that runs WOT for long duration? I think some of the loaded dyno's you can run at a fixed RPM for a long duration, the only issue becomes heat in the dyno brake. Maybe ask Timmy about it.
