I gotta agree with Troll on this arguement. Going faster isn't always the point, sometimes you just go with what you like. Plenty of people blow tons of money on their Mustangs and don't go faster, but there is lots of people that buy them because it's what moves them, not because it's the fastest car on the road (everybody know's Lightnings are the fastest vehicle on the road LOL). Back on point, I think if you can get the VTX at a good price and you like it, buy it. Sure it's a nice bike.

However if you want to be cool, intimidate people wherever you go, have sex with any woman you want, and be a general bada$$, the Harley is the only way to go. The last part may not be totally accurate, but it's close.

Troll, you were always an american badass.

X2 on what Cam said. I had a Yamaha V-Star 1100 and loved it. Would I have rather had a Harley? Hell ya. But at the time I didn't have the $$$ for the hog.... Next new bike I would like to get a Victory Vegas but who knows when that will be.

Harleys are only american built. I'm sure some of the assembly parts are foreign and i'm positive, 99% of he flashy "upgrades" are foreign made. Look on the back of your next purchase package. Yes, i've owned one.

BUT... who wants to ride a copy (and send your American dollars overseas)?
I agree with the above and have owned both Harley/Honda cruiser and a crotch rocket, but aren't the new Buells (Harleys answer to metric sportbikes) just copies of CBRs, Gixxers, etc.? With Harley trying to get into the sportbike field? Same could be said for both sides of the coin. IMO, if Harley wanted to really compete with the metrics, the Harleys would cost half of what the do and everyone would own one. The price of the bike isn't the draw.

To each his own. When I bought my Sv650 I cross shopped a HD sportster. I could only afford the 883 and while it was nice looking, but when it really came down to it, the SV has Hp numbers similar to the 1400 CC hogs, and only wieghs 350-360 pounds, is dead relyable and a lot cheaper.

Basically what you are getting with the Harley is tha name. the uniquness is gone as every one in their midlife crisis has one. They wont even sell the one here that I would actually like to own, the XR1200. No offense to the Harley guys here though, but the Japanese copy's are pretty darn good and all they do lack is the sound and price tag pretty much everything else is better.

OK, I'll whore it up some more....

We should start a new topic because you could discuss this to eternity X infinity and a day.

OK, I did own Japanese motorcycles in the past. Call me a redneck stupid patriot or whatever. Since 9/11/01, I haven't owned anything Japanese or otherwise. Hell the last dirtbike I had was an ATK (look it up) and it was made in Utah.

The Japanese attacked us on 12/7/41. We eventually blew them to pieces, then turned about and gave them billions and trillions of dollars to rebuild their country. Now, they kick our ass with their technology and superior products. AND, we buy it. Is this right? Is this fair? (I hate that word) Is this being an American? Is this sleeping with the enemy? Is this giving the other team your plays? Is this helping them get big and strong again so they try to attack us again?

POINT: If the Taliban and so-called Islamic Terrorists (the people who attacked innocent civilians on 9/11/01) all got together and decided to build a motorcycle and it was superior in every way to every other machine on earth for 1/2 the price, would you buy one? Knowing that all your cash was going to be used to further their cause so they can attack us again?

    ?

The question is, do you buy gas for any of your vehicles? Guess where most of it comes from.

yes and I would love to buy it from ALASKA from now on.

edit: I don't have a "choice" where I can buy my gas. :(

this argument is so illogical it's driving me 4ucking crazy. somebody please explain why it's OK to buy "American" cars and call everything else ricers, tell peeps to buy the Honda Motorcycle and say Harley is just a name !!!
