Someone do me a favor :P

Yeah, somebody go outside if you have a 5.0 that still has an EGR valve..

Start the car.. and see if the vacuum line on your EGR Valve, has any kind of vacuum at idle.

Shut car off, go back inside, and Let me know if it does :D

Mine does, but i was told it shouldnt..

I don't have a 5.0 here but can tell you that if the valve has vacuum drawing on it at idle the EGR will try to open at idle and it will idle like poop if at all. If you put your fingers under the valve and pull up the diaphragm while idling it should stall the car. So the vacuum should do the same thing. It is supposed to only work at part throttle IIRC.

X2 what Mark said. I also don't have a 5,0, but know on a 2.3 it will basically stall it if you push the diaphram at idle. It will open with vacuum.

The EGR is onlt intended to introduce exhaust back into the intake tract during part throttle conditions for better economy / emisssions. It should be inactive at idle and WOT.

Remove the line, plug it, then take it for a drive.

It should stall at idle if it is seeing vacuum

well its not much vacuum, i dont think its even enough to open the valve, doesnt look like its opening...

but should it have vacuum at all or not? if it has a little will that still cause it to run like crap?

Hmm. I'm having a new problem with hanging idle & missing at part-throttle. I wonder if my EGR is bad.

If yo follow that vaccum line back, it should go to one of the soleniods on the back side of the strut tower, these should only open when they get signal from the ecu, if you have vaccum at the egr at idle, then the soleniod is bad..

ok well i just drove it with the vacuum line plugged, and when cold it sounded really weird when moving out of the exhaust, like a miss or something, (thats usually when if i get on it, it will hesitate and studder) if i stayed off the throttle about 1/4 it was fine, but at about 1/2 throttle it really studdered/popped, but again at WOT it pulled very hard.

Usually it pops/studders the whole time when cold. so what do you guys think? the problem isent the EGR?
