    Guys with T5 - 4:10''s - Stock cam

I did a T5 conversion a few months ago. The 4:10's felt great with the old AOD but the car feels slower down low with the t5. Is it too much gear, not enough cam, or a combination of both?
I'm wondering if this is a bad collection of parts or am I not winding it out enough to get into the powerband.
The car has never been to the track in its current configuration, so this is from SOTP feel.

It's a stock bottom end with the following
    GT40 iron heads
    1.6 RR's
    Stock cam
    GT40 tubular intake
Shorty headers w/or H pipe and flows
    70mm SN MAF
    4:10 gears

The car runs and drives perfectly. No issues or quirks at all. It just seems to have a hard time getting things going from a standstill.

Seems kinda odd, my 3.73s i barely have any first gear it takes off that fast, and with an even steeper gear (4.10s) i would think it would really get up and go... sorry no help.. just saying :/

410's are nice for auto's unless your just track racing. but with a manual car 373's are the way to go. i've had both and by far i liked the 373 gears over 410's on the street.

I have a t5 w/ 3:73 and about the same mods you have. It is very peppy. The only prob I have is traction and I have 265's on back, not sure where your prob lies

Whats the first gear ratio in your trans? When I swapped to 3:73s I was able to rip the tires off just from a roll. That was all stock too.

I'm pretty sure it's 2.95 but maybe it's a 3.35? That would definitely be too much for what I have.
I know the 4:10's aren't the preferred gear for a t5 car, but there are plenty of people running them.
I think the first thing I'm gonna do before changing any parts is adjust my driving habits. Seems to me that when I had the AOD I just mashed the gas and held on. Since I got the t5 I seem to ease into it much slower. I don't know why I do it, I just do.

3k - 3200k is where I shift when I'm driving spiritedly. Probably leaving a lot on the table.

Heck man!!! You are leaving everything on the table. Crank the sprit up to 5000 once or twice. You wont hurt the motor and your impression will for sure change. I shift higher than that with my 6 1/2 month old son in the back...with boost. HAHAHHAHA

4.10's are a little overkill for a stock cam and t5. Its going to rev quick and make 1st ans 2nd seem pretty short from my past experiances. Of course a cam with a rpm operating range of 1500/2k-6k would make you feel differently.

Exactly what I was thinking. Either less gear or more cam. It's not that it's a dog the way it is, but you can feel it isn't optimum. I think a proper cam would really wake it up.

I'd leave the 4.10's in it and change the cam.I liked 4.10's in my mostly stock 92 I had. Also it will help the 60ft alot.Put a nice little cam in there and have at it.

I think a new cam is in my future. Just gotta decide if I should get one off the shelf or go custom.

If you aren't changing anything I'd go custom
