    1998 GT diagnostic

I have a 1998 GT that When the car is at idle, it runs fine. But under strain it has this knocking sound that sounds like something is horribly wrong and it feels greatly under powered. How much would i be looking at to have a diagnostic done on it?

Does it sound like marbles in a coffee can? It might be detonating. It may be running lean enough that it rattles. It could be a few different things but sounds like it could be the fuel pump.

its almost a knocking sound. Might be detonating but if it is..it's real bad. But i have to get it checked out before i realy drive it anymore

I had a friend of mine do a compression check, and it's not firing on
the #4 cylinder. He says the plugs look bad and could be causing it, i said he's crazy. Could plugs realy be the problem?

How do you know number 4 is not firing? A compression check just makes sure the rings and everything are still good. To check if the number 4 plug is bad take it out and connect it to the wire and hold it to something that’s grounded. Turn the engine over and see if it sparks. If it doesn’t that might be your problem. Your cars not a diesel it needs that spark to ignite the fuel. Ever seen what happens to a top fuel car when it drops a cylinder?
