    Supercharger finally coming back....

Finally after waiting forever my powerdyne BD-11a is coming back to me. the charger has had failure after failure. I'm not saying i haven't abused it from time to time but whats the point if you don't. The charger builds decent boost and I do notice a very large difference in power.

I was thinking of ways to extend the bearing life, if you could just keep the bearings cooled i don't think you would see failure. 928 motorsports makes a air pump that cools the internals of the charger by venting forced air. I'm im confident that i do this with an electric smog pump off a newer chevy. I was also thinking about getting some conductive paste used for heat sinks on processors to put on the bearing to make better contact with the case.

any opinions (other than buying a different brand )

    What is the failure?

    brgs wearing prematurely?

    oil becoming too hot?

    Leaking seals?

You need to be more specific.

well the powerdyne just has a sealed bearing, no oil anywhere in the unit. its just air cooled. the bearings fail prematurely due to heat

yes, ive had ceramic before. they fail just the same. they will be ceramic this time also. i need some way of cooling the bearing or dissipating the heat

Not much you can do easily with a sealed brg...

oil cooling or water cooling will help keep it alive...

There's only so much you can do bandaid a poor design.

You could try a different brg manufacturer than what powerdyne continues to put in it.

i did think about selling the kit and taking the cash to mess around with my eaton m90
I really cant blame the last failure on the bearings i guess, the place that put it back together had a loose retainer come out into the belt. so i told them i wanted an entirely different unit. this was the aftermath

hmm... i'm no engineer but i'm thinkin an improved design might be like this (blue). perhaps add another impeller (or rather propeller) to the drive gear with vents milled in between the structural ribs of the cover. cooling the whole belt chanber like an alternator sorta? shouldn't affect operation since the business side of the housing is backside

if powerdyne in anyway buys into this, i get 10%
