    The Offical 2008 Hunting Thread

So here's my opening day story:

So I got stuck working Saturday, so I made sure that I worked the AM shift (9am-330pm). So I took myself, my buddy Greg, and our buddy Erik to a friends Tree farm. We get to the farm about 4ish. I took my buddy Erik to a stand that I put up last year. He gets into his stand and I head to my stand. I get all settled in to my climber about 5ish. So about 6:55pm, I saw what I thought was an 8pt come out of the high weeds and walk about 50yrds in front of me and head into the timber. I hear some noise in the timber above me. Then about 7:15ish that buck reappeared, by now I was loosing light fast and knew that I had to do something quick. He was in front of the "Y" tree (pictured below) and slowly walked to the right and was getting closer to me. He past the tree and was in shooting range. Put the "3dot" on him and pulled the trigger. I knew I hit him good. Lowered my crossbow and called my two buddies. So I get down and was waiting for my team to get there when I hear someone whistle behind me. That noise that I heard in the timber was that hunter rattling. By him rattling, it caused that buck to come back towards me. He was hunting that area earlier in the morning and saw that deer but it never came to him. Well my crew meets up with me and we start looking. We find bubbly blood quick so then I knew I got him good. Go about 40yrds into the high weeds and then we find the BIG Boy. I thought he was an 8pt, well he was actually a 10pt. I got a pass through on him so he bled out fast. By this time it is pitch dark out, we do the photos with the camera phone so thats all I got now till "Doc" emails me the good pictures. Gonna get him mounted at my buddies place in Pine Twp, PA.

Big thanks to my buddy Greg and Erik, I did the easy part and shot him. They helped me with the hard part of dragging that big boy out and the gutting. Couldn't have got it all done without their help. Thanks fellas!!!

Some nice deer guys, congrats. I myself have not bow hunted for a couple years and miss it, just to busy. However in my 25yr bowhunting career I've taken over 20 bucks and at least 2 and a half times that many does. Maybe someday I'll find the time to do it again.
