check to see if the top and bottom hoses are both hot, if not then the pump may not be pumping or the rad may be clogged, and does it have good heat out ov the vents??

I'm school now but last night when i as trying to figure it out the top hose was extremely hot but i did not check the bottom. And the heater didn't work on the ten minute drive home while it was starting to over heat.

so if the heater was not blowing hot air, then you either have a clog or no circulation in the system... or a blown head gasket pumping air in the system... was the guage bouncing around or just staying pegged, usually with air in the system the guage will go crazy... I have a little electric lazer heat thing i can shoot the parts with to see how hot they are, it helps to diagnosis clogged rads, some parts of them will be cool and some parts will be hot...

Is there any way to tell if my water pump is functioning? or with the radiator and heater core? The car is mostly my DD this time of year so until i fix it i'm driving the 10mpg all time AWD jeep.

I did one car and it was a combination. It had a bad pump and a bad clutch fan. When the I replaced the pump, both hoses finally got hot.It still would not cool. I could grab the fan with the engine running and stop it.

My fan spins fine. I'm going to take the thermostat housing all hoses off and make sure they're clean, put a new gasket in and see if that helps.

The other one did too. But the clutch was bad. Did you try stopping it? Sounds stupid but it was the problem.

no i didn't try stopping it? haha that doesn't even sound like a good idea. and i have a leak somewhere either the water pump or thermostat housing...can't realy see where it's coming from.

there's a hole in the pump housing that allows overflow if the pumps bad. could be leaking from there.

No, thats a thermostat housing leak
when i put my stocker back in trying to diagnose a problem, mine didnt seal properly due to having gasket material still on the intake side of the thermostat housing, i scraped every little piece of and resealed and now it doesnt leak a drop..

you didnt by accident put the thermostat in backwards did you? Also while the car is running and not too hot pull the rad cap and smell the inside of the rad, if it smells like exhaust in there you have a head gasket leak. just a few things to try

yes the spring should be in the fluid that is being heated by the engine, and those thermostat housings are a little difficult at times, i find the best thing to do is to glue the thermostat into the housing and when it is dry install it so the thermostat cant fall out of place, alot of people crack the housing trying to tighten the housing with the thermostat out of place....

perhaps thats what i did. cuz i glued it down and it just streams out the bottom when i put fluid in. Anyone know where i can get a new thermostat housing and for how much? Is there a better performance one?
