    Need opinions

We are looking at a 91 Mustang GT automatic. It is in decent shape but does not run. We are wondering what the problem could be. The kid seems honest about everything. He claims he was at a red light and it started idling rough and he could not keep it running. Had to be towed and hasn't run since. He has replaced plugs, wires, all vacuum lines and TPS. The car as it sits does not have MAF, it was removed and was OK without it. He says it cranks, but the battery was dead and we did not see it crank. My son is gonna trade straight up for his 98 Eclipse. Any ideas what could have gone wrong with this car? Any thoughts are appreciated. If we could pin it down the kid will probably fix it and the deal will be done.

I have seen cars run with it unpluged. Got to check for fuel and spark. May be a pump or TFI, Probably something simple.

fuel,spark,wiring... all things to look at.

car will run with mass air unplugged but not good, it will act like it has a huge cam in it. most of the time it will shut off.

pickup inside the distributor will make the car act like that also. car will shut off and just crank over.

i would check to see if the fuel pumps coming on/pressure or ignition could possibly be the TFI module on distributor. they are notorious for going bad and shutting the car off.
