    installing subframe connectors

after a long time i finally got some full lengths. the car is already in the air for the clutch change and i figured this is a good time to get after the connectors too. so i was wondering, is lifting the carpet a must?? anyone scorch their carpet before while welding??

a couple things to think about, 1st, you should have the car supported by the a-arms in the front and the rear axle for the rear, 2nd, i have never hurt the carpet as the factory frame is a good 3" away from the carpet. 3rd, get the spots you are gonna weld to as clean as humanly possible!!! 4th, keep in mind if the car has under coating under it, you ar gonna want to clean it off a couple inches back from were you are gonna wweld, when it gets hot is melts and runs down on to your welds...

make sure before you weld in the SF's that you support the car in the air at ride height. Dont just use jack stands under the jack points or it affect your car greatly. and yes I would at least pull the carpet up a little b/c the floor pans do get a little warm

Just to make sure you're saying this right - you want to have the car supporting itself, like a drive on lift would do. You need the suspension to be loaded in order for this install to go well

Yep. The suspension needs to be loaded like your driving. I have never pulled the carpet and I have done a ton of these.

Actually what I do in the front is use blocks of wood and a 2X4 at the outter edge of the tire just to better settle the suspension. It really works great!!! Be sure to check your doors for opening and closing before you weld.!!!!!!! If they dont close the way they are supposed to then they never will once the connectors are welded in.

i just cant see any reason to put anything on a car that you can stand on and bend.... doesnt make much sense to use anything less than 2"X1.5" X1/8th tubing...

there's no way your bending these connectors, they are way more beefy than i thought they'd be......i knew i was ordering full length but never realized just how long they were. i like the fact they have torque box reinforcement too
