That's how it is supposed to be, but unfortunately it's not. If you fill out paper work and that gun can easily be traced to you then what else would you call it?
If I inherit a bunch of handguns from my Dad and never fill out any paper work (which is perfectly legal) what would you call it?

it may not be a punishable crime to not register. but if it is stolen and used in commission of crime or if they get confiscated and you want them back, it'd be much better/easier to have the papertrail. you've never had a cop ask you if your gun was registered? i have.

I'm not talking about receiving guns from family or private sales, I know all about how it works and am very familiar with gun laws. I'm talking about buying a gun through an FFL dealer, there is paper work filled out, handgun requires that paper work be sent to the PSP, if you think they don't keep or record that info think again. I had my FFL dealer tell me ATF came into the shop to audit their paper work(4473 forms) they took names and info from certain people who purchased guns there(which by law they are not allowed to do), my name was one of those names. I asked why they took that info, dealer told me cause you bought alot of AR15's in the past couple months, he said the only people they took info ffrom was people who bought assault type weapons. I bet they know exactly what I own.

I just bought a Beretta px4 40 cal. Took about 15 minutes in Gander Mountain (yes I know I could have saved money going on line)! Not worried about it, with our new president, I wanted my own government insurance policy!

    REGISTRATION
Are all guns registered with law enforcement? No

No state requirement that gun owners register their firearms. Police do not know how many guns are in the state or where they are. The lack of registration data makes it more difficult for police to trace guns used in crime, identify illegal gun traffickers or hold gun owners accountable for their weapons. Although the state keeps records on handgun transfers, there is no state system to automatically identify and disarm felons and other prohibited people who bought guns legally in the past, but later committed a crime or otherwise became ineligible to keep possession of their firearms.
    Check out the source... hehehe

I don't care what the source says, and don't beleive anything you read from the brady bunch. If there is a paper trail it can be traced back to the buyer in about 10 seconds, beleive me I know. I sold a gun to a freind, who then sold it to someone else, it ended up being confiscated buy the police, guess what, I got a letter in the mail to call a certain detective ASAP. He then proceded to ask me why my gun was recovered at so and so's place, he said we traced the gun and it was REGISTERED to you. I told him the story and that was the end of that. So then if there is no registration how did they know the gun was mine?

How about the NRA? Do you trust them?

    http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/PASL.pdf

    QUICK REFERENCE CHART
    Rifles and Shotguns Handguns
    Permit to Purchase No No
    Registration of Firearms No No
    Licensing of Owners No No
    Permit to Carry No Yes
Taken straight from the state law books.

Believe me, cops don't know every letter of the law- especially gun laws. I know quite a few of them personally.

So then if there is no registration how did they know the gun was mine?
The same way they can figure out that a killer bought the duct tape he used to restrain his victim at Wal-Mart.

Beleive what you want, I know how it works and what goes on. Yes I trust the NRA, without them we probably would'nt own any gun, however they are not law enforcement and can only do so much. Have you ever heard them talk about back door registration, that is it. I also know many cops and a couple state troopers, one of the troopers is a real good freind of mine, and yes we have had this discussion. No sense in continuing this debate, if that's what you beleive then fine. Now
