Purchase a gun for my home...

Ok just have a quick question for someone who knows the rules. I tried to go get my gun permit 3 time all being failed attempts due to two times it being closed and one not having the proper ID? I want to save my self a trip downtown and was wondering i don't want to carry a gun on me i just want it for my home. Do i need a permit to buy a gun and also have one at my home? Someone please fill me in...

naw, permits are to "carry a concealed firearm" if you go when they're open and have 2 forms of ID, there should be no problem unless you're a convicted felon... i forget, i think it's $20 - $30 ?? and you have to wait out criminal check... couple weeks? but that might've changed.

you can still have firearms in your house tho they *should* all be registered...

You dont have to wait anymore. They do instant back ground check over the phone. You must have a valid and up to date drivers license though. No 2 different address's. I just bought my AR-15 at a gun show last month paid and walked.

that was a gun show. they have to do them over the phone or they lose the sale.

in a store you have the wait.

Pennsylvania has no gun registration. You don't have to register anything with anyone.

PA law requires that anyone purchasing a handgun complete a background investigation check (Insta-Check) and correspoding form before taking possession of the gun. Since you can't do this from home, this requires you to head to a Federal Firearms Licensed gun store...this is why people think that guns are "registered". It's a common misconception.

You don't have to wait anywhere in PA, fill out the paper work, phone call is made and ten minutes your out the door.

Every gun you buy through an FFL is registered, when you fill out the 4473 it's on file at the FFL holders business, and when you purchase a handgun or rifle the PA state police do the insta check through the NICS system, and a second form for PA must be filled out(handgun only), and a copy of that form is sent to the state police. So yes they know exactly what you bought.

It's not registered. There's tons of legal battles about the state police keeping those forms. There is no "gun registration"- they track the sales of handguns without any legal grounds for doing so. It's NOT the same thing as gun registration.

That's how it is supposed to be, but unfortunately it's not. If you fill out paper work and that gun can easily be traced to you then what else would you call it?

meh, while we're on the subject... (not trying to jack the thread, i think the question was answered)

    US Gun Statistics
    Various Sources
    2-2-5
    (A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
    (B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
    (C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

(Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health Human Services)

    Guns
    (A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.
    Yes, that is 80 million.

    (B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
    (C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188.

Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!

Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.
