    Twist on my project

    Well I have been thinking about my project some more and here is something different I have come up with. I was thinking about getting this motor:

    If I get this motor, will my headers, intake and whatever else I currently have complete this crate engine to be dropped in my car? Tell me what I need to make this motor complete and ready to drop in my car.

    After I got the crate motor in, I would strip down my current motor down to the block and get it prepped and ready for a stroker build. This may take me a good year to get the money for the stroker build, but at least I’ll have a brand new 351W in the car to use while my 302 is getting stroked.

    What do you think?

    If you're going to build a stroker, why buy a new longblock to put in the car. Just find a used engine to stick in there for the mean time.

    Current set up wont fit and why spend 2700 plus on something that does not help you achieve your end goal.Take that money and buy a 351 block and stroke it and build a big inch motor,or just buy a 302 core to stroke if thats what you want and run yours the way it is until its complete just my opinion.

    Thanks guys. Here is my situation. My current motor (that has 145K miles) is burning oil and now using ALOT of coolant. I was trying to think of an easy way to drop a 'complete' motor in then take the time to build up my current motor. I can't even be sure that my current block is good to be stroked

    So what do you suggest to do for $2700? (and NO, not give it anyone )

    There is a strong possiblity of getting the $$$ at tax time, but also keep in mind that the project would need to be done by mid-May

    i think thats a waste to spend all that now just to spend more later then take it out to install your stroker.. you should find a complete used/running 5.0,drop in while u build your stroker...or build that one and put up with ur oil/coolant issues for a little longer.. a couple 100 now, then you'll have more $ to spend on ur stroker motor... just my .02

    Unless your goals have changed, I'd do a 347 given your investment in parts to date. You said you wanted a fun street/show car right. If you were more intersted in racing I'd say do a 351w stroker 408 or bigger. A 347 will add gobs of torque to that heavy 'vert. Get a set of afr 185's, a decent intake like a edelbrock rpm II or the RPM clone. Built right a 347 will give you many fun miles.

    thanks Mark. Yeah it will not be raced and will strictly be a street beast/car show queen eventually.

    So maybe I should just run my current motor for another year, pickup a short or longblock and started piecing it together. I think I should go with a 331 instead of a 347. Either one stroked will kick me in my butt when I get on it

    FYI, a 347 is cheaper to build if you're still trying to stick to a tight budget.

    If you're concerned with the oil ring/piston pin thing, go with the CHP/Probe piston & 5.315" rod setup. The 347 has gotten a bad rep on places like the corral & the advertising weenies at DSS & CHP. If a 347 is machined & clearances correctly it won't be an oil burner. But, that's true of any most any motor. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet & in the car magazines. People don't often disclose their agenda especially on the 'net. What I have is best syndrome runs wild on places like corral.net. I have a 331 & regret not doing a 347 for the extra cubes & torque. If you were doing a high boost or large N2O shot then, I'd might go with a 3.25" stroke. But then again, they are plenty of wickedly fast blown/turbo/N2O cars running 347's in various race series.
